We arrived late at night and didn't really get to see the house until the following morning, when we were very pleasantly surprised by the charming location - horses coming up to chat over the garden walls - the wonderful views from almost every window, and the general homey-ness of the house.
It has clearly been a much loved home and remains a haven, with unexpected nooks, a warm, sun filled conservatory and lovely large open rooms. It was an absolute pleasure to spend a week there, big enough to accommodate our extended family and guests with ease, and a lovely entertaining space also. We enjoyed early morning in the conservatory just as much as late night chats, and the facilities overall entirely met our needs (definitely got value from the dishwasher too!). The children were delighted by a selection of interesting toys and games, and the adults tucked into a wonderfully random collection of books.
The gardener and handyman was great in helping with a minor issue and very responsive. The bedrooms were charmingly accessorised and the house overall was very clean and welcoming.
It is a charming, tucked away location where there is a pervasive sense of peace and quiet which was a very much needed respite.
Having said that, it was also a great base to explore St Andrews and the surrounding countryside, the south west end of the national park, a long scenic drive across Clackmannon to Stirling and an easy drive to Edinburgh, with the local village only five minutes drive away for any essentials you may need.
We would highly recommend the house and would love to go back again.
