Nice setting and great hosts

5 of 5
We stayed for two weeks in Essex Cottage, the self contained annex of Gloucester Place. The holiday was made for us by the kind and friendly assistance of owners Wyn and Bea starting from our welcome supper on arrival. We also sampled Bea's wonderful breakfast (yummy banana pancakes) and on one occasion fresh fish barbecued by Wyn. We were given lots of tips on what to do and where to go, such as buying fish on the jetty and dining out at Joanna's in the village. The rum punches at Glasgows Bar round the corner were great, as was the view from the bar terrace. The location of Essex Cottage was fairly remote (great for us) and we enjoyed shopping at the local shops and stalls and meeting some of the locals. The pool at the property was welcome, although not as warm as the sea! All in all a wonderful holiday in a beautiful location with perfect hosts.

Absolutely fantastic!!!

We're reluctant to tell the world how wonderful Bella Vista is as we'd like it to remain our own secret slice of paradise but that wouldn't be fair to the lovely owners Violet and Peter Quesnel. Due to their hospitality and helpfulness whilst being inobtrusively available to make any enquiries of, I feel we must share what an absolutely fantastic time we had at Bella Vista so that you lucky others might enjoy it. We assure you that (in our opinion) no where else in Tobago is lovelier that Charlotteville. We hired a car for the middle week of our stay and once we had visited a few places and used the convenience of the car to replenish supplies at the supermarket we were most happy to return to Bella Vista. It was for us a home from home. We found true relaxation and rejuvenation there. Violet and Peter felt like our true, lovely neighbours. We so enjoyed the simple but magnificent pleasure of sitting out on the verandah to take in the phenomenal panoramic view and watch the birds enjoy the fruit we put out for them. Flocks of parrots flew across the valley several times a day. We saw sweet little agoutis foraging in the garden from time to time during each day. We befriended a neighbour dog called Patch who liked to spend most of his time at Bella Vista and he would sometimes accompany us to the beach! Bella Vista has all the equipment you could need. Charlotteville has lots of little shops that are well stocked. It is worth exploring them before deciding on going to supermarkets elsewhere on the island. Charlotteville has about five bays and we enjoyed spending our days swimming in the beautiful clear water every day of our holiday and often getting a tasty roti in in the village afterwards. Word of warning to visitors: buy DIRECT FLIGHTS to Tobago and Avon's Skin So Soft bath oil to rub directly on to your skin to repel mosquitoes (nothing else works as well!). We were sad to say goodbye to Charlotteville, Peter and Violet but we know we'll be returning as soon as we can!
