I am sorry for being late in writing this review.
Apart from La Pisa being in the most beautiful location, the hosts John and Gwen are the most friendly and lovely people you could wish for as owners to complement the overall enjoyment of a holiday there. We arrived in pouring rain to find all the guests enjoying the hospitality of the hotel in the bar area, instantly we felt the friendly atmosphere that they were already enjoying. Nothing was too much trouble for John and Gwen, and Janet and I both liked them for the way they had this down to earth approach in being so helpful with a lovely sense of humour that came through.
Our room was very clean and comfortable with its verdant outlook over the valley and forest opposite the hotel, and well maintained. We would most definitely stay there again, and intend to do so as soon as we can, in fact when we left and John and Gwen came to see us off, we were quite sad to leave and on our onward journey to Portugal wished we had stayed at La Pisa for longer.
Potes the nearest town and regarded as the gateway to the Picos de Europa was close by and we eat there on just one occasion, even then we wished we had not bothered because the cuisine that John provided was so good and we missed the atmosphere of the dining room.
We found the Picos de Europa to be magnificent, and I will not list all the places to visit, simply because it is for you to go out and explore the area which has to be the most beautiful region of Spain with its craggy mountain peaks and scenery so wonderfully diverse. The villages of the Picos are fascinating to visit with many escaping any modernistic tendencies to build new properties that would spoil what is a very special vernacular, the styles of which remain true to the origins of the typical agricultural region it once was.
Finally we look forward to returning to stay with John and Gwen at the lovely La Pisa for a second time to enjoy the hospitality, and especially to taste more of John's cooking which is worthy of the praise given to many good chefs.
