My positive impressions of our apartment but most of all of Tatiana, our landlady started from the moment I read her advert. I was actually searching for a cozy apartment suitable for my husband and I. Tatiana's first reply to my booking enquiry immediately confirmed my thoughts. We would be so welcome. However, I did not know how to obtain the invitations, the first step for a visa application. Tatiana offered to help us out and in a week we both received our invitations. Another most assuring service was coming to meet us at the airport and not only, she was also a confident guide. I could see she how she loves and knows her beautiful St. Petersburg. Her apartment, our home for a week, was more than I expected.. Her kitchen was complete with a dishwasher and whatever you may need like a toaster , a coffee maker, microwave oven and more. Name it, you've got it! We had a comfortable sofa, great to land on after being out the whole day. There was a fireplace, although it still wasn't that cold but I'm sure it would have been so nice to turn it on in wintertime. The bathroom was very practical with both an enclosed shower and also a hydromassage tub with a shower too. The master bedroom was large and complete with a computer and WIFI access, a must for travelers today. I enjoyed waking up to see sunny mornings through a picture window overlooking Lanskoye shosse at a distance, a wide, busy street.
Each morning it was a short walk to Chernaya Rechka metro station. Right next to this was a magnificent antique villa that will surely catch your attention. Then there was an open market where we found just about everything so typical of Russia from sweets to matrioskas to pretty ushanka winter fur hats or simply, thick, warm and colorful winter socks, one would like to take home as give away presents. Closeby is park with an obelisk with a bas relief of Pushkin. This is the spot where he was killed in a duel which was then an isolated area by the river.
Places to see are each more beautiful than the other. A boat ride along the Neva River gives the tourist an overview of the city. In the evening a sight not to miss is the opening up of the illuminated bridges.
People were undoubtedly so helpful and friendly whever we would go.
Needless to say that in the neighborhood you will find supermarkets, pharmacies, and so many good places to enjoy an excellent Russian meal at a low price. Russian cusine is delicious.
