We were a group of 8 (4 couples) from a Running Club in the UK that visited Mauritius for 2 weeks of vacation and a couple of races. Firstly, a few negatives. The property was not quite as we expected from the description as there were only 3 bathrooms and none were ensuite. The jacuzzi bath did not work (and had not done for a while by the looks of it). The 4th bedroom (on the 3rd floor) was just about suitable as it was the winter. However, it would not have been usable in the Summer as there is no air conditioning and it is open to the elements with a tin roof. Wardrobes are also needed in 2 of the rooms.
On the positive side, the villa is in a lovely location in Tamarin. The owner, Sanjaiye, was very helpful and arranged for minor maintenance issues to be fixed as soon as we made him aware of them. He even had the whole shower unit changed in the downstairs bathroom as it was leaking!
A car is necessary - very few of the many good local restaurants and shops are in walking distance.
Overall, the villa was good value for money, comfortable, well located and a great base. A pair of scissors and some large beer glasses was about all we missed in the kitchen!! In my opinion 6 people would be the maximum that can most comfortably use the villa.
Locally, we all enjoyed sundowners on the Bay Hotel terrace, the Casa Nostra Pizza restaurant in Tamarin, Food Lovers Market breakfasts and Medium Rare Steakhouse in Roussau Creole.
Thanks to Sanjaiye. We would recommend to friends and consider coming back.
