We stayed at the villa in Contursi for almost 2 weeks and I can honestly say, we had one of our best holidays yet.
The villa itself is beautiful and very well equipped - we were looking for something rustic but also something of a treat in terms of feeling a bit more luxurious. This place really hit the spot! The pool is a very decent size, private and kept immaculately clean by the owner. The poolside has lovely lounging furniture both in the shade or sunshine - take your pick. Setback from the grassy area, there's also a beautiful table for 'alfresco' dining with a fantastic gas BBQ which we made good use of. This is definitely a place to relax and switch off.
The villa has beautiful surroundings and the views of nearby mountains are pretty special. Located very near to Contursi village / town, there are plenty of amenities which really add to the authenticity of the area; all shops are independently owned by local (and friendly) people who sell mostly local produce - a butchers, a pescheria, vegetable and fruit store, pasticceria, mini convenience stores (these stores were exceptionally well stocked and even have fresh produce delivered daily such as buffalo mozzarella cheese). There are even some fantastic pizzerias if you fancy a takeout and some good restaurants just shy of the village - the owner will provide you with directions but they were less than a 5/10 minute drive. One restaurant we visited was run as part of an agriturismo - we were treated to a real foodie feast (and the cost was very reasonable indeed).
A note on the owners: We had a real soft spot for Gerardo and his family, particularly as they gave us such a warm welcome and were exceedingly kind and generous; nothing was too much trouble. We were first introduced to Gerardo's wife and his little baby boy and then shown the villa. There was fresh bread and salumi in the fridge, plus some pretty cakes from the pasticceria next door. There were fresh flowers on the kitchen table and some red wine and olive oil produced by
Gerardo himself. Gerardo also grows his own vegetables organically and every so often we'd get back to the villa to find some freshly picked lettuce on our doorstep. So many personal touches you couldn't fail to appreciate.
We highly recommend Gerado’s villa. A must visit!
