A Fantastic Stay!

5 of 5
this is one of the reviews that you don't really want to be doing because you want to keep the secret of the place to yourself! But Josephine and Walter really deserve to have the word gotten out about their place, so here goes: We spent a week at the holiday rental in July, with our 2 girls (6 and 8). The house is very comfortable and also beautiful, with wonderful views and all set up for a family of 4, including tons of board games which my 8 year old loved. My 6 year old loved "helping" at the farm - mainly carrying the (slightly terrified) ducklings from one cage to the other. In the evenings, we would have a family walk with the resident billy goat, and the kids both were so charmed with it they insisted they'd rather have a goat than a dog. There are paths on the property that lead to some nice ocean views, through the goat pasture, and it's great fun for the kids. There's also a playground, and there were 2 nice dogs, which is a plus with my kids. In short, we liked it so much we would love to return. The town of Schull is nearby, where they have a fun farmer's market and a bunch of restaurants and boutiques that make for fun strolling. Barleycove beach is a short rive away. For smaller children, there is another great beach even closer than Barleycove. thanks for a great stay!

Friendly welcome and stunning views

5 of 5
We came for a weeks' holiday with our two year old daughter. The bedrooms have blackout blinds so ideal for keeping little ones asleep for longer! Ina and Peter gave us a very warm welcome and lots of good suggestions for what to do locally. As ever, West Cork was stunningly beautiful, both in sunshine and rain. The winds can be chilly so pack your woollies, but the private garden is wonderfully sheltered. Barleycove beach is ideal for toddlers, they can play safely in the estuary without having to brave the waves on the main beach. Crookhaven has some great places to eat which are child friendly. One thing to bear in mind is the cast iron spiral staircase, maybe not suitable for younger or less confident children, but our daughter managed it fine. There are also a few steps and levels in the garden. The cottage was very clean and has been really nicely finished and everything you need is either there or available to borrow from Peter and Ina. A great beach holiday location if you get the weather, but it would also be a very romantic retreat for a couple who like the great outdoors, good food and a cosy fire to return to in the evenings.

Lovely cottage with great view and lots of privacy

The cottage was all I could hope for and we felt at home immediately! Dunmanus bay is beautifull at any time of day as well as the rest of the surroundings, we can also recommend the Sheepshead walking and the Ring of Beara! Violet is a great host, helpfull and generous (and a great cook!). We surely would recommend it to friends and want to come back ourselves also! There is still so much to see en enjoy!
