Fabulous holiday

5 of 5
My wife and I have just returned from a very relaxing 2 weeks at the Blue Horizon studios. On arrival, Angelika (the proprietor) very kindly met us at the airport to drive us to the studio, where she had also thoughtfully provided us with some bottles of water, fresh fruit and a bottle of white wine from a friend's vineyard. Throughout our stay, she was always on-hand to provide advice and assistance when we needed it. The studio is located in a very quiet and peaceful area away from the busy town of Tsilivi. We found it to be very clean, comfortable, and well equipped. The studio was on the ground floor, with its front terrace leading directly into the wonderful gardens, with stunning views out to the Ionian sea. Several seating areas & tables dotted around the garden provide great locations for outdoor dining, our favourite being the "balcony" area which gives a stunning 180 degree view over the sea. To one side is a sun terrace, with sunbeds and plenty of shade and of course more stunning sea views. From the garden, some steps lead to a small pebbly beach and the sea itself. This was perfect for cooling-off after roasting on the sun terrace, and also for snorkelling around the rocky shore. We didn't rent a car, choosing instead to walk to most places and grab the odd taxi. The main beach at Tsilivi is about 1km away (15 min walk), however we found the apartment and its gardens to be so relaxing and peaceful that we spent several full days hanging round here, reading and swimming and not bothering the main beach at all. Approx 15 mins walk away (towards Akrotiri village), we found a fantastic, authentic Greek restaurant, "The Akrotiri Taverna". The food and service here were absolutely amazing, so much so that we visited 6 times in our 2 week stay. We cannot rate this place highly enough! At the end of the holiday, Angelika once again kindly took us to the airport, and even gave us a leaving present! We absolutely loved our time at the Blue Horizon and will definitely be returning next year! Thank you Angelika :)

Great base to visit the island

5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this comfortable, well-situated appartment. We received a warm welcome from the owner and were well taken care of. It was very peaceful, the gardens are delightful and the views over the sea breathtaking. The sunrise is worth getting up for! Hope to go back one day.

'I know this great little place': IDYLLIC

5 of 5
After six visits to this beautiful island, we finally struck gold in finding this unique 'semi-bungalow' home. The accommodation, is exactly as described, and more; what cannot be put into words, however, is the 'wow factor': its charm, which is a must to experience. Nestled at the end of the old road, and on the threshold of the 'horseshoe' that loops to the strip and all the way back, you have everything you wish for, right on your doorstep, and beyond. We were transported the three short miles from the airport by our excellent host, Lis, to our accommodation which is equipped with everything that literally makes it a home away from home; not to mention our welcome pack. We ate chez Lis and Tasos, or in one of the many restaurants. Our daytime favourites are Nostos, Stanis, Crystal Beach and Puzzle, all minutes away. The freedom, and joy, of 'brunching'; instead of jostling for pole position at a hotel toaster, at some unearthly hour in the morning, is second to none. Both the privacy and spaciousness of the apartment is unrivalled by any other accommodation in the area, in our opinion. The beautiful, spacious garden area is perfect for sunbathing and the outside dining areas, offer welcome respite, relaxation, and refreshment, in the shade. A few steps away is your swimming pool - the sea, at Crystal Beach. The sunshine and subsequent, ambient evening temperatures are what characterise Kalamaki's climate perfect for us. Sundown, time for dinner, after 9. Cocktails first, our favourites are the Oceanic on the old road, or Look Up on the strip. Then dinner at Michaelos, La Contessina, Zeppos, or Buon Amici. However, the jewel in the crown of Kalamaki's cuisine is Zakanthi, which is of course to be credited to Lis and Tasos. Further afield, there are many little Greek Tavernas to be discovered, both inland and on the coast, as you explore the island by car; you can do a whistle stop tour in a day. The rainbow spectrum of the sea is breathtaking: teal turquoise, aquamarine, lazuli, azure, sapphire... The sky at night in Kalamaki is also a sight to behold. Crystal Beach has to offer one of the most beautiful panoramas on the planet. Here, the moon mirrors the colours of the sea, in the night time sky: cyan cerulean, indigo; greatly enhanced by the lack of light pollution-merely the twinkling of the odd light, from the tavernas in the distance. Kalamaki is busy enough to be interesting, but quiet enough to be a fantastic retreat.
