It was dark and very windy when we arrived and were met by Christina who showed us to the kolokitha cottage, and gave us lots of useful information. It wasn't until next morning that we saw just how stunning the location is. We could not have been any closer to the sea without being in it! We had many spe coal moments during our stay, early morning swims in crystal clear water with only the sound of goats breaking the silence, watching the little fishing boats returning with the days catch, watching a huge fireball moon rise over Spinalonga and send a Golden path out across the sea, seeing the island of Spinalonga lit at night, long lazy days spent on our terrace. The village is just a couple of mins. Walk where there is a small store selling essentials and some great tavernas where you can while away the time people watching. Christina and Lela were like little secret squirrels cleaning and changing linen and towels regularly. Some words of advice, invest in rubber swim shoes, the stony beach is not comfortable to walk on. The kitchen is compact and lacking in equipment for serious cooking, but we easily overcame this by improvising and the bar-b-q was great. We certainly came home feeling rested and would love to return!
