Tremolat is a peaceful, quiet village a few hundred yards from one of the slower stretches of the Dordogne River. There are a couple of restaurants – one upmarket, the other a bar/pizzaria – and a small shop, also a bakery just a few doors down from the Barn. There are a couple of large supermarkets within 20 minutes drive.
The village is well placed for many of the attractions along the river with Beynac and Castelnaud about 40 minutes drive away and Sarlat an hour. The area is good for walking and cycling with plenty of well marked trails and quiet lanes. There's a small canoe hire business on the river about 10 minutes walk but the river is slack here so not very exciting – you can get them to drop you off upstream where it's faster and more fun but it's a long paddle back.
The barn itself is comfortable with good wheelchair access and two bedrooms on the ground floor, one with an en-suite large walk-in toilet and shower-room – good for disabled users. The other shower/loo and bedrooms are upstairs along with a second lounge – ideal for older kids to make theirs! We arranged internet access and there's Satellite TV.
The kitchen/dining area is well stocked and the lounge area comfortable. There's plenty of leaflets and maps for local information and when we were there the hosts were on hand with very helpful additional information and tips to make our stay more pleasant. The garden was big enough for small children to enjoy but small enough to keep an eye on them and the pool area is fenced and gated for safety. The pool and decking area is big enough for a good sized family and is shared with the other apartments. It was nice and clean and a great place to sit in the sun with a book. We stayed in September and while the weather was still warm, the pool was a bit on the cold side making a dip 'invigorating'.
All in all, I'd say the description is pretty accurate and it's a nice place to stay if you want a laid-back, peaceful break.
