If only we could live there all the time!

5 of 5
We had a wonderful holiday on Ile de Re. We caught the tail-end of the Summer season, but enjoyed a brilliant weather- cloudless skies, shorts and t-shirts and even some sunbathing! The village of St Martin de Re is small but perfectly formed, with two boulangeries to chose from within easy walking distance (or v.v.easy cycling distance!) and a lovely peaceful atmosphere. We found it easier and safer to eat out at lunchtimes in nearby villages (La Flotte, St Martin, La Couarde), as the main roads are unlit, so less fun for cycling home in the dark, but this wouldn't be a problem in high season. The house is beautifully decorated, stylish, comfortable and modern. We ate breakfast outside every day in the lovely courtyard garden, and made the most of the kitchen, which is comprehensively equipped. We would recommend hunting for clams in La Flotte and making your own tasty seafood linguine (yum!) Special touches like the coffee machine and the all-singing-ice-making-fridge made us wish we had a kitchen like it at home. The media room is cosy, and complimentary wifi and smart TV provide for the perfect movie night (complete with popcorn machine). The bedrooms again are beautifully decorated and comfortable. What a great place! We will be back!

A great property on a wonderful island

5 of 5
We were very impressed with this property. We were three families (5 young children in total) holidaying together for the UK May half-term holidays, and this suited us perfectly. The houses and pool were very clean, and a minor repair required for the bathroom was addressed on the same day with a quick e-mail to the owner's agent on the island. The owner and his agent were both extremely easy to deal with (both speak English), and our security deposit was returned without any quibbles very promptly at the end of our stay. Linen and towels are not included, although they can be rented from the owner's agent. The pool does have a secure and very ingenious fence around it (not shown in the photos on the website!). Some of us sampled the water, although it was still a bit too cool in late May for regular pool use. There is good Wi-Fi, which is accessible in the lounge rooms of both houses, although not elsewhere (stand near the fence to get a signal initially!). Dishwasher and washing machines made a stay with children that much easier. The houses had a good range of crockery and cutlery and self-catering was easy, with markets in La Noue and La Couarde and a good supermarket in La Couarde. Ile de Re is a terrific destination. We hired bikes and cycled all over, using the extensive network of dedicated bike paths to visit Loix, St Martin and La Flotte, amongst others. The house is in a nice, quiet location - 5 minute stroll to a sandy beach, and about 10 minute bike ride from La Noue (two bakeries open for croissants and bread in the morning) and 5 minute drive to La Couarde. St Martin and La Flotte are also only about 10-15 minutes drive away. All in all - a wonderful place, which we would recommend highly.

Dear Catherine, Thank you very much for returning our cheque. We were delighted with our stay on Ile de Re, and your home was quite brilliant for us. I have never come across such a well equipped holiday house and the garden, pool and views were magnificent. I do hope we will be able to visit there again some time. We all had a wonderful time. I hope you too enjoyed your holiday. Kind Regards Julia July 2006 Dear Catherine, I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your house this past week, and the Ile de Ré in general. It was exactly the vacation we dreamed of having. Everyone we came into contact with, including Véronique, was friendly and helpful. The house was even better than the photos and we loved the beach-front location -- really the best way to enjoy the island! My son especially appreciated all the wonderful books and toys he found in the house. Thank you again for providing us with such a great vacation villa. Best regards, Christina (June 2007)
