Great modern self catered chalet

4 of 5
This property was great for us. One week ski holiday in Morzine with 8 friends. I probably wouldn't fit more than 8 adults in the house though. The house was new and beautiful, had everything that you would need. The L'Octaine toiletries were especially lovely. We didn't ever use the games room. Living area barely fit us all in to watch a movie. Dining table was perfect size. No fire place. I stayed in the main room, which had a great sky light, but still was able to be completly blacked-out. Disappointed we had to share a toilet with the other bedrooms, but c'est la vie. Laundry facilities were a plus. The place didn't seem quite as posh as the beautiful photos, disappointed that we had a cheap red plastic table cloth, but understandably to protect the table. Now I'm getting fussy. The location was good. Still a bit of a walk with skis on (15min+), but there was no snow at the base/around the chalet, so I wore flat shoes to the lift then changed into boots there. There is a free bus from L'Ardant to the Morzine bridge and medium walk from there. Fantastic boulangerie around the corner, and only 5-10min walking distance to the centre of the town and restaurants. Also very close to a big grocery store (E.Ds), which was perfect for our self catering, a lot cheaper than we were expecting and was a huge savings compared to catered option. Wifi was a bit special, really didn't perform at all for the needs of 8 adults. Couldn't really stream youtube vidoes etc without frustration. Improved slightly towards the end of the holiday somehow. Kate the host was good at helping organise, then left us to it when we were there. Her recommendations on transfers (skiddy Gonzales) and ski hire (All Mountain Rentals) was perfect. The standard, the price and the location was great value and I would recommend this chalet to others. My only real disappointment was no snow around the chalet/at the base, but everyone did say March was late in the season for Morzine. Glad that didn't effect the skiing. We had a fantastic week in Morzine!

A perfect haven!

5 of 5
We stayed in Chalet La Boîte à Musique for 2 wks in July/August 2014. The chalet was in a great position looking over Morzine from the terrace….stunning views, the photos just give you a taste but the real thing is amazing! In spite of the mixed weather we could sit out most evenings and mornings on the huge terrace. The chalet was really comfortable and cosy, quickly warming up on the chillier evenings with a quick boost from the heating! It’s beautifully restored and is thoughtfully designed to be light and airy in the living area with a well laid out kitchen and a lovely big table for eating around. On arrival it was clearly very clean and well maintained. We took the lifts (many open in summer) which were 15 mins from the chalet and walked every day across the many different mountain paths nearby. Great for breathtaking views of the mountains and spreads of meadow flowers with butterflies, proper Heidi country! The location of the chalet was great, being slightly away from it all but a 10-15 minute walk down to Morzine in the morning to get bread etc. Equally a stroll down for an evening meal in one of the huge variety of restaurants was easy and meant we didn’t need to drive. Amongst many other facilities, Morzine has a couple of well stocked supermarkets, a wide variety of shops, a launderette, and tourist office with free wi-fi (useful as the chalet had no internet access). All of these things contributed to making Chalet La Boîte à Musique one of the best holiday rentals we’ve ever had. We would definitely recommend it.

Gorgeous chalet in Morzine

5 of 5
We had a fantastic stay in this gorgeous chalet in Morzine! There was more than ample space for the 10 of us and nearly a bathroom each (4 en-suite double bedrooms on the top floor and an en-suite 4-bed bunk room on the ground floor, where there was also a separate toilet and shower room next to the SAUNA!) We LOVED the sauna - such a nice way to relax and warm up after a hard days skiing. Also on the ground floor was the ski and boot room (we recommend the ski delivery service) and a games room which we never really got around to using but would be perfect for kids. The middle floor was where we spent most of our time cooking in the very well equipped kitchen (huge oven with 6 ring stove, big pots and pans, raclette machine, coffee machine, toaster, laundry room with american-style fridge...), big dining table and lounge area (LOG FIRE, tv with surround sound, xbox, more dvds and books than Amazon, GOOD WI-FI connection). It was too chilly for us to use the balcony and BBQ but I imagine it would be fab on a summer night. Half of us drove to the chalet from around France (there was off-road parking for 2-3 cars) and the rest took a shuttle bus from Geneva airport). There were no problems finding Chalet Maia and access was quite easy (important if there is snow and ice on the road). As we had a car we were able to collect all of our shopping from a Hypermarket (SuperU Tangines, 20mins by car) but there were lots of smaller mini-marts in town. You could also walk to the town centre in ~25mins (in shoes not ski-boots!) to take advantage of the après-ski! For skiing, we mainly took the bus to the Super Morzine Lift (about 10mins) to get to Avoriaz. The bus is pretty regular and because the chalet is fairly early on the line you almost always get a seat. To get to the Pleney lift takes 5mins more and is where you find the majority of the bars/restos/shops too. A car is completely unnecessary unless you are looking for an obscure offpiste/ski-rando route. It was very straightforward to book Chalet Maia and all of my emails were responded to quickly (we actually met Nick and Jenny as we were leaving and they were lovely!) If you are a big family or group of friends you should definitely book Chalet Maia for your next stay in Morzine!
