wonderful haven.

I came to le Roc in Bournazel with a group of friends for the 'Cool Recipes Goes To France' retreat. We had hired all three gites. I shared Gite Amande, and was totally charmed by the spacious and carefully designed interiors. The garden, pool and environment are delightful, and I urge anyone who is considering journeying to France to stay at le Roc! Oh yes, the owners, Nicky and John Chapmen, are great hosts.. Thank ou Nicky and John for a wonderful few days.

Wow! What an amazing place!

First impression, what a lovely character building. Then when I saw inside I was so impressed. Really open, large ground floor with a well kitted out kitchen and excellent equipment including cooker, toaster, coffee maker, dishwasher, - washing machine is in the downstairs cloakroom. Comfy seating area and table and chairs for eating. All well planned and decorated. Upstairs I had a very large double room. Loads of room! Comfy bed and 2 Velux work on a remote control! The shower room is small but its got everything you need and is all new. The gite I was in had a twin room as well (en-suite). Our gite had adjoining (lockable) doors to next door gite so would be great for a group especially with the 3rd gite. There's a lovely feel to these gites. They all have terraces and tables, chairs outside. One thing to be aware of is that they all have steps up to them so if you have a mobility issue I'd go for one of the gites that adjoin. I was in Noisette and that had an option to walk round to a gentle grassy slope to the terrace and entrance. Outside there's a big grassy area and a decent pool which is well fenced so little ones can't get in . The pool has lounging furniture too. John and Nicky, the owners live in their conversion on site and are very hands-on with everything and have plenty of local knowledge as well as being really welcoming and friendly. I've already raved about the property to my family and friends and with cheap fares from Stansted (£30 return) its a no brainer! Drawbacks - only one bar in the town so you definitely need a car to get out and about unless you do just want to sit about. I've put 4 stars only because I felt you definitely needed a car and the bathroom might be challenging with small children.

A dream property - one in a million!

5 of 5
Our stay at ‘le Grenier à Blé’ just outside of Aurignac was quite simply the most amazing holiday we have ever had. Coming from Australia, our desire was to take our children to a villa in the south of France that epitomised everything you see in the movies about this location. When looking on the internet for a house, we found this property and it looked too good to be true. The amazing thing to us was that it exceeded every expectation we had. It was a perfect setting for our family of 3 children (11 yr old son, 7 yr old daughter and our youngest son who turned 4 at the house!). We also had nanny and poppa who joined us from New Zealand. Elizabeth and Simon were the most amazing of hosts, and it was so sad to leave. We stayed in the villa for 11 nights and wished we had extended further. We took day trips to Spain, to Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges (an absolute must) as well as just hanging out at the house which was an experience in itself. We’ve stayed at many 5 star hotels around the world, however this experience surpassed anything we have experienced before. To wake in the morning, wander down to the little church at the entrance to the road, pop up to Aurignac for fresh bread and coffee was what dreams were made of. The property somehow managed to create a magical atmosphere that we can’t quite put our finger on. Our children (who loved just running in the fields, swinging on the tyre across the stream, hanging out at the dam and just wandering around) did not want to leave either – and continually talk about our time there. The grandparents want to return with us next time! There were 7 of us that stayed, and it was such a special experience. We have taken quite some time to post this, as we just couldn’t sum up how you describe such an experience – and we still don’t think we have done it justice. Elizabeth and Simon (and Florence and Oscar), you know we have already booked for 2016, and we look forward to seeing you then. Andrew and Natasha Madams (and family) Perth, Western Australia.
