Perfect French Escape

5 of 5
La Cravatte aux Papillons is an extremely comfortable and spacious villa with outstanding views over the hills and Grimaud castle and a glimpse of the sea in the distance. The area surrounding the villa is rural with pretty homes tucked away behind neat rows of vines. The only sound to be heard was the odd donkey braying in the distance and birdsong. The swimming pool is large and sparklingly clean and we enjoyed many leisurely hours reading and enjoying the garden, old vineyard below and seemingly endless view of the Maures. We had everything we needed to make self catering easy yet there is a good choice of restaurants in La Garde Freneit within a 15 minute drive. There is a lovely shaded patio at the villa and dining table which we sat out at for many lingering meals. The road to the villa is partly gravel which means people drive slowly and carefully so ideal for exploratory walks. There is a lovely TV should you desire it and the availablilty of broadband was very welcome. The owners have a good selection of books to read if you can take your eyes away from the view. We found the beach at Cogolin very clean with plenty of parking and loungers and umbrellas for hire and a couple of good restaurants serving delicious salads and more. Shopping was easy at the supermarkets near Cogolin but the market in La Garde Freneit and little Spar shop in the village was useful too. A daily jaunt to the bakery and coffee in the square was de rigeur ! All in all a wonderful and relaxing holiday. We would certainly return.

Stunning

5 of 5
This house is absolutely wonderful with the most amazing views. Waking up in the morning and looking out at the vista is just a joy. The reflections on the Pool are equally joyful and we were all blown away by the peace and tranquility. We've rented properties in France for a number of years but really found this place faultless. Everything from the wonderful interior to the lovely bedding, the huge TV (great for tired kids) and the fab kitchen that has the best equipment I've ever seen in a rental. Thank you to Hanna (housekeeper) and Tony (owner) for a wonderful holiday. We will be in touch for next year.

Absolutely what it says on the tin - lovely !!!!

In my past experience, you might as well try your luck with the euro millions as pick the right villa for your holliers off the internet - sad but true -!! Photoshop does it's thing, owners hide behind agents, who skulk behind the gardener, all of whom then hide behind web sites and the inevitable small print, and hey-presto every place can appear like the Villa Alexandre in the shake of a little lambs tail. Difference is though, the Villa Alexandre is the real deal, a lovely 'family feel-good' house, full of books, personal stuff, and that slightly beaten up effect that immediately makes one feel relaxed and at home. Don’t expect hot and cold running luxury here, or any other pretentious flim- flam, this is a Gentleman's residence, a home away from home, comfortable, well appointed, lovingly maintained, and, lucky for us, available at a very reasonable price to rent. Best of all, the Gentleman in question (Please note the capital G) has the chutzpah to put his photograph up on the website (next to his personal mobile number !) and, from the moment of first contact, we knew we were dealing with an honest, helpful, and straightforward owner. No problem was too big or too small not to merit his immediate or undivided attention, or if appropriate, be handed on to his team "on the ground", who were equally helpful and obliging in the face of every eventuality. Five minutes in the (essential) car sees you in the centre of La Garde Freinet, bakeries, butchers, and bistro's, the usual South of France deal, only way better than most, (plus one of the best wine shops I have come across anywhere in France - no BS !!). Fabulous walks start outside the front door, and twenty minutes behind the wheel gets you to the beaches at Cigaro, or several others either more or less grand, and finally, traffic permitting, (and providing that this is indeed your thing), half an hour sees you ringside in the circus that is St Tropez. And yet, sitting by the large and lovely pool that actually works, or on the sun kissed terrace shaded by abundant and mature vines, you could be lost in a reverie a million miles away from civilization, pondering upon the most beautiful verdant and unspoiled views sweeping down across the valley below. All in all this was a great find, you will be well looked after, and providing your expectations are more or less within what is on offer here, you will have a lovely time We had a ball, and hopefully, we will be back -!!!
