Secluded base to explore the Berry region

5 of 5
We had a wonderful holiday this summer in the main house. There’s a well-appointed kitchen with dining area, a separate dining room and a comfortable sitting room for rainy days. We swam every day in the beautiful pool which was cleaned every day, and we found a bathing lake at Bellebouche about half an hour’s drive away. There’s also the secluded garden for eating outside and a huge area at the front. Michel and Chantal were the most accommodating hosts you could find. There are supermarkets and more specialized shops in the towns about half an hour away in either direction. We found the neighboring farm on one side sold delicious ice-cream and on the other grew and sold saffron. There are lots of interesting villages and towns in the Berry area (which is right in the centre of France) and La Brenne nature park is in easy reach by car. This has thousands of big and small lakes with literally hundreds of bird species. Lots to do and we recommend the property to others.

A Rustic Farmhouse Getaway in the middle of France

5 of 5
The information provided is accurate and comprehensive but could not describe the delightful nature and location of this property. Within minutes of arrival we had managed to lock ourselves out but this was clearly not a problem with the owner's representative bringing a key to let us in very quickly. The directions provided were accurate with no difficulty encountered in finding the property. First impressions are always important and ours were of a very spacious gite equipped to a high standard. Everything was spotless and we were straight in to cooking an elaborate meal for our party. Subsequently we made good use of the barbecue and were spoilt for outside dining facilities - both undercover and open. We loved cycling to the nearby village (3 kilometers - but not Mondays when it is closed) to purchase our breakfast (croissants and pain aux raisin to die for). We had small children and didn't eat out, preferring to stay at the gite and relax. Dining out does involve a car journey and frankly we felt it was more trouble than it was worth. However only 20 minutes by car to the nearest sizeable town of Loches with all the facilities you might need, supermarkets etc. then if you feel inclined a further 20 minutes to the regional centre of Tours. The heated swimming pool was used every day - a very good size compared to many. There's something special about being able to swim whilst looking over open countryside which you do here. We also used the table tennis in the barn but none of the keep fit apparatus (we were on holiday after all). We were able to avail ourselves of fruit and vegetables from the large garden and the tomatoes in particular were exquisite. We had a smallish party of eight and the facilities were more than adequate though if there were eighteen in residence you might need a rota for the bathrooms. We didn't use the one in the outhouse but it looked perfectly satisfactory. This property was perfect for us. It is in a fairly isolated location so very quiet, and I would thoroughly recommend it to potential visitors. As a spacious retreat I don't think it could be bettered. Many thanks to the owner for letting us use her charming farmhouse - it provided us with an oasis of calm in an increasingly frenetic world.

Truly beautiful houses!

5 of 5
After a tiring drive we arrived at le Founil and La grange and were thrilled. Spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished. La Grange is straight from the pages of Homes and Gardens! Perfect accomodation for more than one family, both homes have everything you could possibly need. Our children adored the large gardens and play equipment and the pool. If the weather is good, you really wont want to leave the houses! We have stayed in many gites and houses in France, and these were definitely the best equipped.
