Amazing house, beauitful location and must!

5 of 5
We have just returned from our holiday and had to write a review! This house is absolutely beautiful and finished to the highest standard, with a stunning log fire. It is in a idyllic location, very quiet and perfect for a relaxing long weekend or week away. There is easy access to local towns and big cities like Dijon, which includes a large market. Bill and Jenny are lovely and attentive to all needs. This is a perfect holiday home for anyone who is looking for a relaxing break in a quiet countryside setting. We will most definitely be returning soon for another break away.

BACK AGAIN TO SAPIN COTTAGE

5 of 5
Our second visit to Sapin, this time with friends who stayed in the cottage next door - allowing us to spend as much or as little time together as we wanted. First things first: Theresa and Alistair were just as lovely as before. So hospitable, warm and friendly and with great senses of humour. They have a gift for being available for help and advice but are never intrusive. Sapin is a beautiful cottage. Clean and well equipped of course and also tastefully and comfortably furnished. The gardens are ideal for lounging around reading and bbqs in the evening (good gas bbq provided). We love it. This area is brilliant for walking, cycling (cycle rental available in nearby village), trips in a microlyte (ten minutes away), and boat trips and pretty villages and historic towns. The many paths along the canals take you past sweet lock cottages some of which offer refreshments. Always something to do. There are plenty of good restaurants around - Chez Camille in Arnay -le-Duc is very good value (ten minutes away) and Theresa and Alistair are on hand to offer up-to-date info on others. We enjoyed a second lovely holiday and are definitely returning for a third. Thanks again to Theresa and Alistair for providing such a gorgeous place.

Historical Haven in France

5 of 5
My husband and I plus two friends stayed in this wonderful rental in September for one week. The four of us have rented properties several times together in Europe and decided La Chouette was among the best. Property was accurately represented in description and very clean upon our arrival. Access and lock up were easy transitions. The owners had an extensive amount of information on the area that proved useful. We loved Semur En Auxois. It was a real French village experience that had a good variety of stores and restaurants that filled our needs without the line of tourist buses that have plagued other vacation spots. The combination of the the hilltop towers and church combined with the river that flows near the rental is lovely, and we all have several photos to prove it. The house itself had quality furnishings and combined the old and new with a great deal of taste. The spiral wooden staircase was one of our favorite things about the house, creaks and all. And the stonewall in the kitchen was a WOW. I was a little worried about the street seeming to be so close to the house, but traffic was light and slow going because of the twisty nature of the road. Parking was easy and convenient. It is a hike up to the local boulangerie and patisserie but the walk gave us an excuse to indulge in an extra croissant. (We are all past 60 and had no problem with the climb.) We used the home as our base as we biked the Burgundy Canal, which I would recommend. We rented bikes at three different towns that were all less than 30 minutes away. The canal paths were scenic and not crowded at all in September. We thought the biking was more fun than the barges which we easily passed as they continually had to stop for the numerous locks. In the evening we would rest our legs, drink luscious Burgundy wine and watch one of the CDs that the house has available. I would not hesitate to recommend this special haven to any friend or relative, If you are looking for a taste of France rich in history and beauty, you can't go wrong with La Chouette.
