Lovely apartment in ideal location

4 of 5
The apartment's location is up the hill from the main road between Holetown and Speightstown, so you have lovely views from the terrace down to the sea, in the mornings while having breakfast you can watch the humming birds in the hedgerow flowers, or the green monkeys as they might pass through the garden, and spot the cruise liners passing on the horizon towards Bridgetown. As the sun moves round, the terrace gets much hotter, and is in full sun by mid afternoon!! We named the lizard that basked in the heat 'Humphrey' after the detective in 'Death in Paradise'. We had lots of other birds visit, as well as a Green Heron that stalked up and down the hedge and caught lizards!! The local beach is lovely, and worth the 5 minute walk down (10 minutes back up!). Everyone you pass greets you with a smile. The apartment is well equipped, we used the washing machine ( a top loader, and quick) and the large bed very comfortable, and the bedroom relatively cool because it is built into the hillside. At night we would move indoors to avoid bitten insects, but not until we had watched the sun going down over the sea. There is traffic on the adjacent road, but Gone to the Beach is further from the road and occasional traffic noise is muffled by the vegetation. The wifi was very useful, TV limited, but there are lots of DVDs and CDs if that is what you like. Lots of beach towels to use, too. Rachel who manages the apartment was very helpful on our arrival and departure, and also getting the hot water sorted out ( a problem with the solar heating). We used the local buses a lot, and hired a car for a couple of days to visit places hard to get to by bus). The sat nav was useless!! Good job I had a really good map!! We liked Mullins Beach Bar, and of course, Oistins Friday Fish Fry. St Nicholas Abbey is an interesting visit, the focus is very much on the fine fittings and the rum. The slavery on the plantation is glossed over. Sunbury Plantation House gives you a much better take on that aspect of local history. I would recommend to anyone to stay at 'Gone to the Beach'

You can live the dream

5 of 5
In life to obtain the impossible means that you have to push yourself beyond the norm. This also applies to Bequia as it takes a bit of effort to get there but once you do then you soon realise why you did. Add to this the excitement of staying at Tropical Hideaway you will soon question why it took you so long. This property is absolutely stunning and every element of the time spent there is a joy. Whilst the property can accommodate 10 or more people,it never feels like you are encroaching on other people as all the rooms are secluded and private, each with their own fabulous, uninterrupted views the the azure Caribbean sea. We have been lucky enough to have stayed at TH on 4 occasions and we opt for the Infinity Room as we like the proximity to the pool area and whilst the other rooms offer more cooking facilities we prefer to go out of an evening to try out the various restaurants in and around admiralty bay. The Infinity Room is a very spacious room offering a beautiful bathroom and chill out area , basic cooking facilities including hob ,microwave, fridge etc and plenty of utensils. The welcome pack of provisions which are in the room on your arrival are perfect for starting you off and the Owners offer a complete provisioning service should you wish to take that up,anything from fresh fish to rum! There is also the excellent media services incl wifi along with a bath tub that could accommodate a giant and very comfortable bed. What more do you need ? Oh, forgot to mention the pool ,which is bigger than many hotels we have stayed and is the prelude to the most amazing views of the harbour below. Martin and Julie (the owners)have thought about every minute detail on what people need to relax ,whether it be a rum punch, a downloaded movie or a reservation at a restaurant or organising a trip ,nothing is too trivial but each is very personal and makes you value the service. Bequia itself is a charming ,uncomplicated island where all you really need to decide is what you want to eat .the beaches are wonderful, safe and almost always empty and the main town is completely accessible by the coastal pathway ,unlike other islands where hotels have taken the access to the beach away from main roads. Oh,on Bequia there are no traffic lights nor roundabouts so getting round the island is very relaxed . The pace of life on the island is a lot slower than other islands but that adds to the charm ,after all your on holiday ! For us TH is the perfect vacation.

perfect position and better than a hotel

5 of 5
Simon could not have been more helpful. His apartment is so comfortable (including the bed and especially the soft pillows) It is luxurious with beautiful views over the sea and beach and being higher up we had no mosquitos. Dena the housekeeper is lovely and comes in on saturday, tuesday and Friday. Paynes beach must be one of the loveliest beaches in Barbados. The security people including Romeo are friendly and on hand. I prefer this to a hotel because of the space, privacy, and Dena .We ate out each night, favourites are Lone Star for lunch and dinner, Mullins for lunch, Cin Cin and Tides. We shall be back if we can !
