We were a party of 8, made up of two families with mixed skiing experience. Although there was a lack of snow which was unprecedented, the Bulgarians coped well with the help of snow cannons and we were able to ski every day.
Gilly and Charlie were brilliant at making all of our arrangements with the ski school and transfers etc before our arrival. The only trade off was that we arrive with The Telegraph and its crossword puzzle !
We arrived at the Rila Mountain Lodge to a warm welcome from Gilly and Charlie and a welcoming bowl of soup and fresh bread. The lodge was warm, clean and cosy with plenty of bathrooms for everyone. There was a lounge and kitchen in each apartment but we preferred to gather downstairs in the bar/snug.
Gilly and Charlie couldn't do enough for us and treated us like family. The food was delicious and plentiful. We sometimes felt we were letting Charlie down by not finishing his huge breakfasts! The children were especially fond of his chocolate pancakes.
On returning from the slopes in the afternoon, it was lovely how Gilly and Charlie invited us to go for a walk with Tam and Tukka (the dogs). The company was great and we never felt the need to go out or leave the 'honesty' bar in the evening, It just felt like home!
We can't recommend this lovely holiday home enough and am sure we will return again and again.
