The Mediterranean island of Malta is a wonderful destination for holidaymakers and there are many delightful towns and villages to stay at. One such place is the coastal area of St Julian’s Bay & Paceville, which is located in the north east of the island. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas and apartments.
The area is ideally situated for St George’s Bay, where there is a good sandy beach suitable for sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling. Various other watersports can be tried in Malta including sailing, water skiing, paragliding, wake boarding, jet biking and kayaking. There are some fantastic places in here to explore making it a great place for hiking, horseback riding and cycling, while the promenade heading to Sliema is popular with joggers. There is plenty on offer in Malta for sports enthusiasts including an 18-hole golf course at the Royal Malta Golf Club in Marsa. This same club also offers miniature golf, swimming, tennis and squash. Visitors will find many places to dine in the area including restaurants, bars and cafes. There are some great shops located in the area for self catering holidaymakers to purchase food and drink as well as souvenirs. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants at the nearby resort of Sliema.
This area of Malta is regarded as Malta’s main nightlife centre with several clubs, casinos and bars. These two towns also have several fascinating buildings including the historic Giovanni Spinola built in 1658. The Villa Dragonara is another fine building with great sea views and now houses the casino.
The warmest time of the year to visit Malta is generally July and August when the average high is approximately 32 degrees centigrade. January and February are the coolest months with an average high of 16 degrees centigrade and average lows of 10C. There is very little rainfall in Malta especially in summer. The wettest months are generally November and December with an average of 111mm per month.
Malta International Airport (MLA) is the only airport in Malta and receives flights all year round from many cities. Air Malta fly to and from Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Birmingham, Brussels, Catania, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hamburg, Istanbul, London, Manchester, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Sofia, Stuttgart, Tripoli, Vienna and Zürich. St Julian’s Bay and Paceville are approximately a 25 minute drive from the airport and there are car rental services and taxis available on the island.
A trip to the Maltese capital city Valetta is well worthwhile as there are many historic buildings, palaces, churches, museums and galleries here. Visitors may also like to take a trip to the coastal resorts of St Paul’s Bay and Bugibba in the north of the island, where there is lots of nightlife and entertainment. Victoria is the main town on the island of Gozo and offers many interesting places to visit as well as good shops and restaurants.
