The Mediterranean island of Malta is a fantastic destination for holidaymakers and there are many wonderful towns and villages to stay at. One such place is Naxxar, which is located in the central northern part of the island. Naxxar has some fantastic places to explore and is a great place for hiking, horseback riding and cycling. There is plenty on offer here for sports enthusiasts including an 18-hole golf course at the Royal Malta Golf Club in Marsa. This same club also offers miniature golf, swimming, tennis and squash. A short drive takes holidaymakers to coastal resorts such as Bugibba, which has a rocky shoreline but is still suitable for sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling. Various watersports can be tried in Malta including sailing, water skiing, paragliding, wake boarding, jet biking, wind surfing and kayaking. Visitors will find a few places to dine in and around Naxxar including restaurants, wine bars and cafes serving a variety of dishes. There is a supermarket nearby for self catering holidaymakers to purchase food and drink from. A bigger variety of shopping can be found in the capital Valletta.
There are many interesting buildings and sites in Naxxar including one of the tallest Baroque edifices on Malta. Another highlight of the village is the Parish Church of Our Lady, while the church museum houses processional statues. Visitors will see several windmills, two fortified towers and the Palazzo Parisio, which is a stately home with beautiful gardens.
The warmest time of the year to visit Malta is generally July and August when the average high is approximately 32 degrees centigrade. January and February are the coolest months with an average high of 16 degrees centigrade and average lows of 10C. There is very little rainfall in Malta especially in summer. The wettest months are generally November and December with an average of 111mm per month.
Malta International Airport (MLA) is the only airport in Malta and receives flights all year round from many cities. Air Malta fly to and from Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Birmingham, Brussels, Catania, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hamburg, Istanbul, London, Manchester, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Sofia, Stuttgart, Tripoli, Vienna and Zürich. Naxxar is approximately a 25 minute drive from the airport and there are car rental services and taxis available on the island.
A trip to the Maltese capital city Valetta is well worthwhile as there are many historic buildings, palaces, churches, museums and galleries here. Visitors may also like to take a trip to the fishing village St Julian’s Bay on the main island, where there is lots of nightlife and entertainment. Victoria is the main town on the island of Gozo and offers many interesting places to visit as well as good shops and restaurants.
