The Mediterranean island of Malta is a fantastic destination for holidaymakers and there are many wonderful towns and villages to stay at. One such place is Marsaskala, which is a seaside resort located on the east coast of the island. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, farmhouses, villas and apartments.
This pretty resort has some fantastic places to explore including the harbour promenade and is a great place for hiking and cycling. There is plenty on offer here for sports enthusiasts including an 18-hole golf course at the Royal Malta Golf Club in Marsa. This same club also offers miniature golf, swimming, tennis and squash. The beach at St Thomas Bay is just a ten minute walk away and is suitable for sunbathing and swimming, while wind surfing is also very popular here.. Various other watersports can be tried in Malta including sailing, water skiing, paragliding, wake boarding, jet biking and kayaking. Visitors will find a few places to dine in and around the resort especially along the harbour with its restaurants, bars and cafes. There are a few shops in the area for self catering holidaymakers to purchase food and drink from as well as souvenirs. A bigger variety of shopping can be found in the capital Valletta.
Marsaskala has numerous interesting old buildings well worth visiting including the Parish Church of St Anne. The Mamo Tower is on the road to Zejtun and a fine example of a fortified farmhouse built in a shape of the cross of St Andrew. The whole family can enjoy a theme park here featuring an animal park and children’s play area.
The warmest time of the year to visit Malta is generally July and August when the average high is approximately 32 degrees centigrade. January and February are the coolest months with an average high of 16 degrees centigrade and average lows of 10C. There is very little rainfall in Malta especially in summer. The wettest months are generally November and December with an average of 111mm per month.
Malta International Airport (MLA) is the only airport in Malta and receives flights all year round from many cities. Air Malta fly to and from Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Birmingham, Brussels, Catania, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hamburg, Istanbul, London, Manchester, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Sofia, Stuttgart, Tripoli, Vienna and Zürich. Marsaskala is approximately a 15 minute drive from the airport and there are car rental services and taxis available on the island.
A trip to the Maltese capital city Valetta is well worthwhile as there are many historic buildings, palaces, churches, museums and galleries here. Visitors may also like to take a trip to the fishing village St Julian’s Bay on the main island, where there is lots of nightlife and entertainment. Victoria is the main town on the island of Gozo and offers many interesting places to visit as well as good shops and restaurants.
