The Maltese island of Gozo is a delightful destination for holidaymakers and there are many wonderful towns and villages to stay at. One such place is the village of Gharb, which sits in the north of the island. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas and apartments.
Gozo has some fantastic places to explore and is a great island for hiking and cycling. The nearby coastal town of Dwejra offers caving opportunities as well as swimming and diving. There is plenty on offer here for sports enthusiasts including golf with the Royal Malta Golf Club on Malta. There are some lovely sandy beaches just a short ride from Gharb for sunbathing and swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. Various watersports can be tried in Gozo and Malta including sailing, water skiing, paragliding, wake boarding, jet biking, wind surfing and kayaking. There are a few places to dine nearby including restaurants and cafes. Visitors will find some shops too with souvenirs available including a few local arts and crafts. Self catering holidaymakers will be able to purchase items from the nearby food shop. Victoria on Gozo has a larger choice of shops and restaurants.
Gharb has some interesting old buildings including the late 17th century Parish Church of the Immaculate Conception. There are three magnificent statues of Faith, Hope and Charity by the church. St Mary’s Church in Gharb is even older and was built in the 16th century. The Gharb Folklore Museum is an 18th century historical house full of antique tools and artefacts.
The warmest time of the year to visit Malta is generally July and August when the average high is approximately 32 degrees centigrade. January and February are the coolest months with an average high of 16 degrees centigrade and average lows of 10°C. There is very little rainfall in Malta especially in summer. The wettest months are generally November and December with an average of 111mm per month.
Malta International Airport (MLA) is the only airport in Malta and receives flights all year round from many cities. Air Malta fly to and from Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Birmingham, Brussels, Catania, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hamburg, Istanbul, London, Manchester, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Sofia, Stuttgart, Tripoli, Vienna and Zürich. A regular ferry service links Malta with Gozo and there are car rental services and taxis available on both islands.
Victoria is the capital city of Gozo and offers many more interesting places to visit as well as shops and restaurants. A trip to the Maltese capital city Valetta is well worthwhile as there are many historic buildings, palaces, churches, museums and galleries here. Visitors may also like to take a trip to the fishing village St Julian’s Bay on the main island, where there is lots of nightlife and entertainment.
