Anyone looking for a scenic place to spend their holiday should try the commune of Caltagirone on the island of Sicily. The lovely old town is in the middle of the Mediterranean island, which lies south of the Italian mainland. Caltagirone is a great base for holidaymakers looking for fun things to do throughout the year. The warmest and driest time of the year to visit Sicily is generally July and August when the average high temperature is approximately 26 to 27 degrees centigrade. June and September are also warm months but September is much more susceptible to wet weather. October and November are the wettest months with an average of 95 to 98mm of rain per month.
The nearest airport is Catania-Vincenzo Bellini Airport (CTA), which is approximately one hour and 15 minutes drive from Caltagirone. Flights arrive here from the main Italian cities as well major European airports such as Amsterdam (AMS), Brussels (BRU), Berlin-Tegel (TXL), Geneva (GVA), London-Gatwick (LGW) and Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG). Taxis are available outside the airport terminal building and numerous car rental firms operate from here including Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty and Sixt amongst others.
