Holidaymakers looking for a pretty island vacation in the Mediterranean Sea should try Sant’Antioco. This is a wonderful place off the south west of Sardinia, a Mediterranean island off the west coast of mainland Italy. This is a delightful resort with good sandy beaches for holidaymakers to unwind on and soak up the Mediterranean sunshine. Sant’Antioco Island has many interesting places for holidaymakers to visit. These include fantastic historic structures and buildings such as The Palaeo-Christian Basilica of Sant’Antioco, Roman Bridge, the ancient acropolis and The Forte Su Pisu. There are a couple of excellent museums here too namely the Byssus Museum and Ferruccio Barreca Archaeological Museum. About 20 kilometres away is the delightful town of Carbonia, which features some great historic sites. These include the 11th century Romanesque Church of Santa Maria di Flumentepido and the former coal mine, which is now a museum. Southern Sardinia boasts some fun places for the whole family to enjoy including Blufan Water Park at Sarroch and the Laguna di Nora aquarium at Pula.
Sardinia enjoys plenty of sunshine in the summer months and stays relatively mild in the winter months. The average high temperatures for July and August are 30 degrees centigrade, with 11 hours of sunshine per day in July. Most of the rainfall on the island occurs during the winter although temperatures reach a minimum high in January of 4 degrees centigrade but may be as high as 15C.
Cagliari-Elmas Airport (CAG) is approximately one hour and 25 minutes transfer to Sant’Antioco Island and has flights to and from mainland Italy as well as numerous European airports. These include Cologne/Bonn (CGN), Geneva (GVA), London-Stansted (STN), Madrid (MAD) and Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) amongst others.
