Set against the backdrop of the Tramuntana Mountains, Santa Maria makes for one of the prettiest destinations in Majorca. Santa Maria offers visitors all the benefits of an authentic taste of rural Spanish life, while only 20km from lively Palma and its many surrounding beaches. Santa Maria apartments offer families and couples an attractive alternative to the large, noisy resorts so typical of Majorca.
Visitors staying in a villa or apartment in Santa Maria can easily explore the area around their accommodation on foot. The historic centre of the town contains Casa de la Vila, the town hall built in the 17th century. Families may also hire bicycles and explore the surrounding countryside, with several of the island’s major cycling routes running through the area.
Santa Maria is famed throughout the country for the quality of wines and liqueurs which are produced in the area. Visitors may take a trip to one of numerous wineries in the region and see what all the fuss is about.
Visitors should check out the Sunday markets in Santa Maria which happen year-round. This is a great place for self-catering visitors to pick up some fresh local produce as well as some unique local souvenirs.
Just a short drive up the road at Binissalem is Golf Connection, an 18-hole course which is open to visitors paying green fees. Sailing and diving are both on offer in nearby Palma.
Self-catering Santa Maria apartments are well located to see many other areas on Majorca. Only a 15-minute drive down the motorway is the island’s capital, Palma, with its Arabian inspired Old Town featuring the Bellver Castle, La Seu Cathedral, Banys Arabs or Arab Baths and the Placa Espanya.
Just a little further down the coast from Palma, visitors may visit Marineland, a zoo and marine park featuring dolphins, sea lions, sharks and monkeys along with a pirate boat and miniature train for the kids.
Families can cool down from the summer heat at one of four water parks scattered around the island, with Aqualand El Arenal the nearest at only 14km from Santa Maria.
Summers in Santa Maria are the hottest and driest time of year, with temperatures up to 30C, but even in the winter temperatures rarely dip below 10C, making Santa Maria apartments an ideal year-round getaway.
Santa Maria, as with the rest of the island of Majorca, is served by Palma Airport (PMI). Santa Maria is located only 22km along the motorway from the airport, making it easy to reach your self-catering accommodation by bus, shuttle transfer or taxi. Hire cars are also available from the airport and this gives you a great way to get around and see the island.
