Santa Fe sits in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains at a height of 7,000 feet above sea level. It is one of the most popular travel destinations in the US with miles of scenic forest and beautiful canyons around the city. It blends Spanish history with modern attractions and is well prepared for visitors. The Plaza is the most historic district in Santa Fe and is a National Historic Landmark. Canyon Road is a historic route into the mountains and the old neighbourhood is the centre for around 250 art galleries. It has been rated as the second largest art market in the US, after New York City.
New Mexico is made up of 19 Pueblo tribes and a number of these Indian communities are close to Santa Fe. A visit to one of these areas gives a great insight into the ancient and modern worlds of the Pueblo Indians.

The town of Santa Fe is dominated by the Romanesque cathedral. As well as being a centre for worship, the cathedral is home to a centuries old statue which is revered by the city. Look for La Conquistadora, the oldest Madonna in the US, which dates back to 1625. Tours of the cathedral with its lovely stained glass windows are available.
This mountain region is lovely to visit at any time of year. In winter it is excellent for skiing, while in the warmer months it is great to escape your holiday rental home and enjoy picnicking or hiking in this scenic area.
Summers in Santa Fe are hot from May to October with temperatures between 19-31°C (65-87°F). Spring and autumn are also pleasant during the day but temperatures may drop to freezing overnight.
