Sant Josep or San Jose is the largest municipality of Ibiza, Spain, covering the southern corner of the White Isle, from the airport round the spectacular coast to the infamous San Antonio. The actual village of San Jose lays proudly half way up Sa Talaia, Ibiza’s tallest mountain, dominated by the 15th Century church fortress. The town has genuine character and charm, which is why so many people return year on year. It is a wild, untouched place, unspoilt by the clubbing heritage of the resorts along the coast.
Climbing to the top of Sa Talaia is a great excursion from a holiday rental in San Jose, offering not only a great sense of satisfaction, but extraordinary views across the island and to both the Spanish mainland and Mallorca when the sky is clear. However, for the less energetic, or those who are only on a short San Jose holiday, you can also drive right to the top!
The principality has over 80 km of coastline, consisting of glorious blue flag beaches like Cala Vadella, Cala Jondal and Cala d’Hort, hidden coves and deserted inlet beaches to enjoy.
There are plenty of things to do in San Jose. Entertainment in the form of water sports, walking, cycling and sight seeing options are everywhere, but some of the most enjoyable hours of a San Jose holiday are spent relaxing in a café garden listening to the music, from live jazz to the infamous dance music which can be heard later in the evenings.
The village of San Jose has everything that you might need when staying in San Jose holiday accommodation, with shopping, bars, a medical centre and some great restaurants. The attraction of San Jose is that some of the best restaurants and little squares are almost impossible to find, and you stumble across places like the garden of Es Raco Verd or the Bar Bernat Vinya completely by accident.
Both Ibiza Town and San Antonio are within 15 minutes drive of San Jose, so a self catering holiday villa here is an ideal place to retreat to after a night out at one (or more) of Ibiza’s famous clubs. The peace and tranquillity of San Jose offers a perfect contrast to the bustle of Ibiza’s main towns, and ideal for a family holiday.
The climate of San Jose is the envy of many holiday destinations around the Mediterranean. With winter temperatures remaining above 15˚C and summer temperatures reaching into the mid 30’s (˚C), there is never a bad time to rent a villa in San Jose.
Ibiza Airport (IBZ) is 7km outside of Ibiza Town, right on the outskirts of San Jose. Holiday rentals are easy to reach from the airport, and there are regular cheap flights from the UK, especially during the summer.
