Right on the almost tropical coast of the French Riviera is the hugely attractive port town of Sanary-sur-Mer. It is almost impossibly beautiful, with wide palm lined promenades backing onto the still, clear waters of the Mediterranean, and the illuminated spire of the church dominating the skyline.
The harbour is filled with small fishing boats, pleasure boats and yachts throughout the year, and the sea life is an important influence for locals and tourists alike. There are always plenty of deep sea fishing trips, sightseeing tours and sailing excursions on offer from the from of Sanary-sur-Mer, and it is this part of town which will take up the majority of your time from a Sanary-sur-Mer villa due to the amazing number of seafront bars, cafes and restaurants. There are also a huge variety of attractions within the town too. The zoological gardens, the Roman Tower and the Frederique Dumas Museum are all well worth investigating from a self catering Sanary-sur-Mer apartment too.
Walk along the promenade in either direction from the harbour and you will discover some of Sanary-sur-Mer’s prime attractions; its beaches. The beaches are long and sandy, stretching for miles around the inside of the wide, sweeping bays on which the town stands. As well from the rich sailing heritage, visitors to Sanary-sur-Mer accommodation will be able to windsurf, water-ski, surf and dive. Scuba diving is excellent from Sanary-sur-Mer, with many famous dives accessible in a short boat trip from the harbour.
The vine covered headland which flanks Sanary-sur-Mer is a wonderful place to walk and cycle. Covered in lush vegetation and offing magnificent views along the coast and into the foothills of the Alps, walking in the countryside surrounding Sanary-sur-Mer is a genuine treat.
The resort of Bandol is within easy striking distance of a self catering cottage in Sanary-sur-Mer, located just 22km along the coast. Bandol is a wonderful resort based on one of the best beaches in the region. The beach is of course a major attraction, and you will be able to practice any water sport you like from Bandol, from para-sailing to scuba diving. Bandol is also home to a number of excellent golf courses.
There are an average of over 300 days of sunshine every year in Sanary-sur-Mer, from the scorching summer days where temperatures routinely climb into the mid 30’s (˚C), to the cloudless days of mid-winter, when temperatures are still well above 10˚C. The sea is warm enough to swim in from May until October for the vast majority of people, but if you have thick skin, you can also swim for a few months either side if this before a wetsuit becomes invaluable!
Hyeres-Toulon Airport (TLN) is just 30km from a Sanary-sur-Mer holiday rental apartment or villa. Ryanair provides the only direct flights from the UK to Toulon-Hyeres, leaving from London Stansted (STN), but there are regular flights from almost every British Airport to Nice (NCE), which is just a few miles further.
