San Baronto looks down over the River Arno, which is an area surrounded by fantastic natural beauty. This area is a famous training area for cyclists, but there are plenty of less strenuous pathways which all the family will enjoy, many of which wind around the valley and offer stunning views of the surrounding area. Horse riding can also be organised nearby and is another great way to see the surrounding countryside.
There are a number of 18-hole golf courses very close to San Baronto, with the nearest being Montecatini Golf Club, just 5km from the town. There are also some great opportunities for fishing, both down at the River Arno and at a number of other spots close to the village, with supplies also available to buy nearby.
Tuscany is of course famed as wine country, and there are countless vineyards around San Baronto. Many of these offer tasting sessions to the casual visitor, or it is possible to arrange tours locally which take in a number of the best vineyards in the region.
Florence, the capital of the Tuscany region, is the nearest city to San Baronto at just 50km southeast of the town. Considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, here visitors can surround themselves with magnificent examples of the country’s artistic and architectural heritage in what is now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other sights not to be missed include the famous Uffizi gallery, the Pitti Palace and the Duomo.
San Baronto, along with the rest of Tuscany, benefits from a Mediterranean climate, which sees hot summers and fairly mild, relatively dry winters. Temperatures in July and August sometimes peak above 30C while in January and February it is rare that temperatures dip below freezing. The spring and autumn months are the most pleasant for enjoying active pursuits in the Tuscan countryside, with temperatures sitting comfortably between 10C and 20C.
San Baronto is easily reached via Florence Airport (FLR) which is 43km from the town. Meridiana offer flights directly from the UK to Florence Airport, while other airlines change at Rome. Alternatively, a number of budget airlines fly to Pisa Airport (PSA), which is around 84km away. This includes Ryanair and easyJet. Car hire is available from either airport and is the most convenient way to reach your San Baronto holiday home.
