You could start with a walk either through the area, or along one of the signed trails, such as the GR42. This could lead onto cycling, and the quiet country lanes are perfect for gently turning the wheels. Stepping up a level, you could hire canoes on the Ardeche or Ceze rivers, and paddle along their waters and through the canyons. Other ideas of things to do include fishing, swimming, tennis and golf.
There are many places of interest that you can visit during your holiday in Saint-Gervais, both near and far. Just four kilometres away is the village of La Roque sur Ceze which is a beautiful settlement of medieval origins; and the town of Orange, which has some excellently preserved Roman remains in the form of a triumphal arch and amphitheatre. The amphitheatre is in such good condition that it is still used for opera concerts during the summer. A little farther away is the town if Uzes with its amazing architecture, in particular its religious tower, and the city of Avignon which is beautiful during the day or at night.
This region of France enjoys a Mediterranean climate due to its southerly location, which means that you can expect warm summers and mild winters. From May through to September day time average high temperatures of 24 degrees Celsius or more are common place, and during the winter, day time highs of 13 degrees are still reached. Rainfall is quite minimal during the summer, with less than 50mm per month falling, and during the winter, this doubles to 100mm per month.
You could either drive or fly to your holiday rental villa in Saint-Gervais from the UK, each method having some form of advantage. If you drive over, then though you may face a ten hour journey from the port at Calais, but you will have the use of your own vehicle, which is all but essential if you wish to see more of the area. Flying is quicker, and you would land at Marseilles airport (MRS). There are many connections into here, with British Airways offering flights from Gatwick (LGW).
