The village of Romanya de la Selva is a tranquil setting that is perfect for those who would like to visit the attractions and beaches that Spain's Costa Brava is famous for, but would like somewhere a little bit more relaxing and tourist-free to return to at the end of a busy day. Accommodation in the area is largely secluded, offering panoramic views out over the surrounding countryside, as well as excellent facilities for self-caterer’s to make the most of.
If you are seeking a Costa Brava destination that is the polar opposite to busy tourist resorts such as Lloret de Mar, you can do far worse than take a look at Romanya de la Selva. Located around 15km inland amongst pine-clad hilly terrain, the town attracts outdoor pursuit’s enthusiasts and nature lovers rather than nightlife-lovers and sun seekers, with a series of well-marked trails offering some spectacular scenery along the way.
That is not to say that there is nothing within the village itself, as several restaurants and cafes exist around its centre, which provide the perfect opportunity to try out your Catalan on the locals. That said, Romanya de la Selva is best suited to those that are looking to self-cater, and there are several food shops where you can pick up supplies.
Romanya de la Selva is also a good base for golf enthusiast, as there are two courses within a 20km radius, and a number of others to be enjoyed if you are prepared to travel around the region. Of the two local options, Golf d’Aro is the most well-known, and hosted the Cataluña Open in 1992.
By renting a car you can explore the Costa Brava to its fullest. With the city of Girona just 29km away, a day trip here is the best place to start with, and also the best place to pick up tourist information for the remainder of your stay. An interesting town worth a visit is Platja d’Aro (15km), which has some of the coast’s best beaches, an active nightlife and a well-maintained historical centre that dates back to Medieval.
The majority of international visitors prefer to visit Romanya de la Selva during summer, when temperatures are at their highest and rainfall at its lowest. If you are seeking a bargain, however, consider visiting in spring or autumn, when accommodation prices are generally lower, and the weather is still more than pleasant.
Girona – Costa Brava (GRO) Airport recieves daily flights from across Europe, and is the place to head to after you have booked your holiday rental accommodation in Romanya de la Selva, and is just 25km from your destination. Although it is possible to get public transport to your accommodation upon arrival, car rental is relatively cheap in this corner of the world, and will allow you to explore the surrounding area during your stay.
