Lying on the northwest coast of the island of Puerto Rico is the beautiful beach town of Rincon. By renting a villa for a Rincon holiday you will be privy to spectacular sea views, luscious green scenery and lots of golden sand. A Rincon rental villa is the perfect option for a relaxing getaway or an adventure filled break in a quiet part of Puerto Rico. The town is noted for its excellent water activities, yet remains uncrowded and is a truly pleasant place to stay.
Even though Rincon is only a small town it has a myriad of activities on offer. As it has its own beach there is a host of watersports available including swimming, snorkelling, diving, windsurfing, jet skiing and surfing. Visitors can also indulge in a spot of horse-riding and there are public tennis courts as well as several gyms to be enjoyed.
The town also has two art galleries which house artwork by local artists. You can also purchase paintings, jewellery and local crafts here. Visitors can see Rincon Pottery being made and participate in regular pottery workshops. Rincon would not be complete without its Surfing Museum since it is a world class spot for this sport!
Whilst enjoying a Rincon holiday it is worth visiting the historical city of Ponce, which is just under an hour and a half away. The city has many things to see and do and in fact is known as “The Museum City” in Puerto Rico. Among the museums that people can visit is the wonderful Ponce Museum of Art. Housed in a building with uniquely hexagonal rooms, visitors can view works by many great artists including Gainsborough and Rubens. Visitors can also get a taste of Puerto Rican culture and history at the Museum of the History of Ponce.
A must-see on the outskirts of the town is the Tibes Indigenous Ceremonial Centre. This site was one of the most important archaeological finds made in the Antilles. Visitors to the centre can see skeletons that date back to 300 A.D. as well as a reconstruction of how a Taino village looked over 1,500 years ago.
Unlike most tropical destinations, a Rincon holiday provides a pleasant environment that does not cause discomfort. The average daytime temperatures reach a comfortable 28°C and there is usually a generous breeze to ensure that visitors do not overheat. Puerto Rico also has a lower humidity level than other tropical islands and so it does not take long to dry out after a spot of windsurfing or jet skiing.
December and January are the cooler months for visitors who can expect average daytime temperatures of around 15°C. Rainfall is more prevalent during the month of August but the average annual rainfall of the island is only 52 inches.
Most flights to Rincon are indirect but you will find a few of the operators such as Virgin Atlantic who fly direct to the island. The majority of flights land at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) which is located in San Juan, approximately 2 hours journey from the town. Operators offering regular affordable flights to Rincon include Thomson Airways and British Airways. Visitors to Rincon can depart from London Gatwick (LGW) or Heathrow (LHR) airports.
