Very clean, warm, cosy and comfortable apartment. The owner and his daughter are extremely accommodating helpful and efficient and respond quickly to all communication sent to them. For the price I feel it is excellent value; we were 6 adults and found it very comfortable although we only used the apartment for breakfast and sleeping. The apartment is in a very convenient location being literally only 5 minutes from St Pancras and Kings Cross stations. The added advantage is that although the street is quiet it is within a two minutes walk from a small Tesco store or restaurants/cafes if you turn right when leaving the apartment. V Gutierrez

our stay at flat 2 northdown street

  • Review Submitted: 03-Apr-2010
  • Date of Stay: Mar 2010
We randomly chose this property for 3 nights in mid march 2010 while surfing the internet and therefore have to marvel at way things panned out. It was to accompany tourist friends for a visit to london. We were 4 adults and 2 kids)

Debbie (given I have only interacted with her over the phone and e-mail) is perhaps one of the most organised people I have come across. The words prompt, professional, pleasant and extremely thorough come to mind. I wonder if her work as a wedding planner has something to do with this.

I happened to meet Ben as he was doing some DIY on one of the other flats and he seemed a very pleasant and friendly man who gave me a tour of the new flat (which I believe is complete now). It looked great.

Now to the practical good points about the flat:

1. literally 5 min walk from King's cross train station
2. good speed Wi-Fi
3. clean well maintained flat with 2 bedrooms,1 on suite, 1
sofa come bed ( there were 6 of us with 2 kids and we
were comfy
4. TV and DVD player
5. phone line for free incoming calls (no outgoing)
6. kitchen equipped with pans etc and a decent sized
fridge
7 2 min walk to TESCO (open till 10 pm I think)- I actually
made some chicken curry and rice on 1 of the 3 nights
we stayed there and all that I needed was available at
TESCOs There are a few internet cafes with printing
facilities nearby and also a few newsagents open until
late
8 Apart from the one night that we heard a police siren
wail when we had the window open, it was very quiet at
night time (inspite of the proximity to king's cross
station )
9. there were a couple of 'not too bad' takeaways who do
home delivery's, but more than the taste we appreciated
being able to eat without embarrassment in our PJs after
a refreshing bath at the end of a tiring day, not forgetting
that we had 2 'energetic' kids (one 7 and one 2).

I struggled to think of any negatives but if you have a lot of heavy luggage and want to avoid carrying them over 1-2 flights of narrow stairs, I would suggest either taking the ground floor flat or offloading some heavy stuff at LEFT LUGGAGE at King's cross.

I would definitely recommend this property for rental and ccommend Debbie for her professionalism.

This flat (#2) was just as described. We (2 couples) loved the location, with the variety of transport and food choices available within easy walking distance. The entry was very secure, all rooms were spotless (we met the lovely Grace who does the cleaning), warm, cosy and always a pleasure to come back to with all the facilities of home. Ray and Debbie were both easily contactable, helpful and co-operative. Will recommend to friends.

I chose this place for one week family stay, based on reviews and photos: self-catering because I am allergic to gluten and wanted to prepare some meals, also for space to relax.
We stayed in flat #2 - it was cleaned to 5 star level (immaculate!!), all beds including sofa beds incredibly comfortable. The ensuite shower has it's own heating circuit, so two lots of showers could be had at once - great time saver. Great entry/security system. Everything about the place was perfect, but more importantly - we found Debbie and her father Ray to be the nicest and most helpful of people.
There is a wonderful file full of extremely useful information in the living room - shopping, transport, sightseeing etc, etc.
The location could not be better - brilliant if you are coming off the Eurostar. Truly only 5 mins walk away from King's Cross - and it seems all tranport in London leads to King's Cross, so catching buses is an absolute breeze to anywhere. You can take the underground of course, but why miss the views?
There are some cheeky and cute squirrels that reside in the private courtyard area, and you can watch their antics from the kitchen window in the mornings. The local food is delicious and better priced than central London, there is a marvellous private car transport company right near the place and they took 4 of us, with 4 large suitcases to Heathrow for GBP40 - pick up from door - which we thought was very reasonable. Always a parking spot to be found in the street if friends or family come to visit for the day. Always felt really safe walking around this neighbourhood at night.
All in all, you would be very lucky to stay here, and you would never want to stay in a hotel in London ever again!
Thank you Dwek family for making our stay so lovely!

Cheers from Australia.

Perfect for our wedding weekend

  • 5 out of 5
  • Review Submitted: 22-Sep-2009

We rented the 2 flats in 36 to house our families during our wedding weekend, as our marriage was in Islington and our reception at the London Canal Museum, which is about 3 minutes walk away. The flats were just perfect, very well presented and in a great location.

Debbie and Ray who own the flats were helpful throughout our stay and incredibly accommodating to our needs, we would like to really thank them.

The location is great, as it really is only a 5-10 minute walk to Kings Cross and St Pancras, the street is quiet (for central London!) and opposite a great pub (which isn't noisy), which has a very friendly clientele and fab beers. The flat is only a 5 minute walk from the Regents canal too, which you can walk along to Camden and on to London Zoo and Regents park.

The flats are lovely and would make a great base for visiting London - you don't need to get married to think they're great!

First-class accommodations!

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at 36 (#2) and could not have asked for a more convenient location to explore the city from. The flat was equipped with all the mod-cons one could need for a comfortable stay. Other benefits I will list here: 1) Tesco Metro just a minutes walk away; 2) Kings Cross St. Pancras station less than 5 mins walk; 3) Europcar rental location less than 5 mins walk; 4) Several greasy spoons, restaurants, pubs, etc.. all within just a few blocks. Also, if you like London pubs, there is one directly opposite the flat (King Charles I) that serves a good pint and, although they don't serve food, they will let you order Thai food from a local restaurant which delivers the food right to your table in the pub! Definitely excellent value for the money, as four of us stayed for much less than a hotel in a similar location would have cost, and we were able to save more money by self-catering! Overall, it was just perfect!
