Visit the Algarve in May!

I came to Tavira for the first time in May. The temperature was very pleasant. We had a hire car and I really enjoyed seeing the abundant wild flowers and the mostly empty white sandy beaches.
We drove to Sevilla in Spain and saw the annual Feira, what a spectacle! THe whole of central Seville was taken over by people in horse drawn carriages and women and girls in fabulous flamenco dresses with their escorts.
The town house was clean, tidy, and decorated in the simple way that I associate with Portuguese homes. It had all sorts of extras, such as an iron and ironing board, which I found very helpful.
Walking around in the town itself, day or night, I always felt safe. We particularly liked the Belmar restaurant across the Roman bridge, which is frequented by locals and does excellent fish.
Coming across the castle garden was a find, it is only open on certain days of the week.
I agree that a car is not necessary, but we found it useful for exploring the mountains to the north, the nearby beaches, and we also drove to Albufeira for the day, where I found a better choice of handmade gifts such as Portuguese pottery.
I will definitely recommend the property to friends, although because it is a townhouse those who cannot negotiate the stairs would not find it suitable.
