Cracking Ski Holiday - Didn't want to leave!

We started our holiday flying into Basel (on a lost cost flight) & boarded the train to Lucerne, and another to Engleberg. Connections worked out well, & the journey was thoroughly enjoyable. The lake at Lucerne was stunning, & the climb up to Engelberg, through forests and quaint villages was truly breathtaking. On reaching E'berg, we thought we had entered into a Winter Wonderland - hooraagh!
We were met by John & Gay who kindly picked us up from the train station & took us to the chalet. The chalet was of a high standard - it was clean, a good size, and was decorated to a traditional yet modern style. The view from the chalet to Mount Titlis was mesmerising. You could just look out the window & forget about all troubles & enjoy the peacefulness & tranquillity of it all.
Morning after the day of travel: we woke up and took the short walk to the main ski lift. It was great to see that there weren’t any queues & this was the case for the whole week. Bonus!
My sister and I have done a ski season each and so we're pretty confident on ours skis. We were hoping that the skiing would be challenging enough for us & am happy to say that it certainly lived up to our expectations. There was variety on the slopes, & enough devilish runs to get the adrenalin going. It snowed a couple of times so we were able to enjoy going off-piste & enjoy a bit of power snow.
It was the second time skiing for my nephew who is now 8. We sent him for lessons at the Swiss Ski School – and he absolutely loved it. He was very well looked after, and his skiing improved immensely. His teacher was a true professional – he spoke perfect English, and got the best from his young team. Medals presented at the award ceremony at the end of the week gave the children something to be proud of – and parents, friends (and aunties) were happy to see their sense of achievement.
When you want a break from skiing, there’s a lot to explore on the mountain. There's an igloo hotel that's built every year - you could stay there for a night or two, or like us .. stop there for some cheese fondue and Gluvine. There’s also a Glacier Grotto and the rotating cable car (Rotair) is another plus.
Nightlife in E'berg is fun. We went to the Yucatan which was good, but the Spindle Night Club proved to be the better of the two. The traditional Swiss restaurant at Alpenclub is a must for food - and the atmosphere there is fab.
A fab trip all in all - which ticked many boxes.
