Charming and immaculate hideaway

I stayed here with my husband and daughter for a week in August, and I cannot say enough good things about this home. For starters, the East Marion location was perfect - just 5 or 6 minutes to the bustling town of Greenport, yet far enough removed to feel like we had our own secret hideaway. There's a gorgeous beach about 10 minutes walk up the road, another sand-filled patch at the end of the street, and of course the beautiful lake (though not swimmable) right off the back deck. Each morning we woke in what felt like a cottage out of a fairytale - bustling leaves, total privacy, pleasant wind chimes (not the annoying kind), and of a couple of gorgeous swans (who like croissants apparently!) The house, while not huge on square footage, makes a mathematician's use of space; everything is laid out efficiently and we were surprised how much storage space was available, even in the bathroom. The owner has provided everything necessary to make you feel at home - even a small welcome basket of essentials like shampoo, soap, razors, maps, etc. The deck is heavenly and, like the rest of the house, is very tastefully decorated - no "rental looking" stuff here! There's a comfy hammock and great outdoor dining table under a cupola, the latter of which can easily accommodate extra dinner guests. The BBQ grill (like nearly everything else in this home) was brand new and the washer/dryer in the bathroom was a huge help with a child. The brand new pullout couch in the living room was extremely comfortable and can easily fit 2 children or adults. Also worth noting is the outdoor shower which only added to one's sense of communing with nature at this bucolic oasis. The owner was all too willing to help both before and during our trip, and any questions were responded to immediately and thoroughly. In my opinion, the pictures do NOT do this place justice - it is far prettier than the photos suggest. I am a discriminating native New Yorker with tons of travel under my belt (both luxury and otherwise), and I would undoubtedly stay at this home again. Anyone visiting should make sure to see Greenport and should absolutely get a beach pass (easy thru Town Hall) during the peak summer months. Goosecreek and New Suffolk Beaches were wonderful, though there are many more to see. Ditto on the vineyards, though Osprey's Dominion is a favorite for the music and ability to bring in food. Aura was a great restaurant find. Overall, a fabulous, relaxing stay w lots to do if you choose.

We stayed at this property for the last week of August-- husband, wife, 6 month old baby, and dog. The beauty of the property is not captured in the photos. Each morning we watched dozens of species of land and sea birds travel through-- really a birder's paradise. A great blue heron graced the property just about every day. Each evening we watched as about 40 white egrets gathered in their sleeping colony. Amazing! The property was also great with our dog-- as city folks, we loved letting her out in the 98% enclosed yard to run around. The property is well-maintained and we used the fabulous grill regularly. The North Fork is a fish and produce destination, so we just lightly seasoned, threw it on the grill, and there was our dinner! The house interior is well-maintained-- clean, relatively new fixtures and such. The refrigerator is large, there is ample light throughout, we appreciated the washer/dryer, and if you open the windows throughout, you get an amazing cool lake breeze. The one downside to this place-- for our family-- was that it was a bit small. The pictures are exactly accurate. Our Pack n' Play in the bedroom made it impossible for the person on that side of the bed to walk by (had to crawl over), let alone open the closets where we stored our clothes. Even without the Pack n' Play, I often hit my leg on the narrow bed corner as I walked by. We live in a small Manhattan apartment, so we are used to tight spaces. But I think staying here with any more than two people would be too tight. That all said, they did a great job making the most of the space that they have, and they definitely do not misrepresent it here in any way. This just isn't the kind of house you stay to be inside all day. The other caveat is that though Peconic Bay is indeed a few steps away, there is really no beach to speak of. You have to drive to get to any part of the Bay that you'd want to stay at for more than 5 minutes. The great thing is, the property here is great, so you want to be outside. If you're into birds, take your birding books and binoculars. It's also walking distance from Fork & Anchor for groceries.

I stayed here with my mom and 2 sisters and we loved it! The house is absolutely adorable. There is a great deck in the back that overlooks the lake, which is beautiful at sunset. The yard, deck, and hammock are all great for relaxing or reading. It is less than a minute walk to the beach (the bay), but the water is kind of gross to swim in. The outdoor shower was amazing. However, there are A LOT of spiders and bugs...it is right on a lake, so that is to be expected. We rented bikes from Dan's Bike Rentals and it was fun riding into Greenport and surrounding areas. All of the restaurants and shops in Greenport close really early, so you have to kind of plan ahead when doing grocery shopping or going to restaurants. The North Fork seemed more down to earth than the South Fork. It is more rural with vineyards, farms, and fruit/vegetable stand on the side of the road. This was our first time to New York. We spent several days in the city and this cottage was the perfect place to relax and unwind! If you are looking for a beautiful place to come and relax, then this cottage will be perfect for you! I hope to come back someday :)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The setting on the lake was private and restful and we had a great time watching the diverse bird life on the lake from the deck. The cottage was newly renovated with new furniture and appliances and the house very clean. We loved the open kitchen, but also utilized the outdoor grill and eating area where there was a nice breeze. A great outdoor shower helped keep us keep cool and we made liberal use of the hammock in the shade of the weeping willow.

We stayed two nights in June in this lovely home- even more beautiful in person with the willows and hydrangeas in full bloom. We arrived after sundown so we didn't get to appreciate the view until the next morning- and wow what an amazing surprise. The birds and the breeze blowing through the willows and wind chimes was like something from a dream- truly magical. We loved the swans and ducks that leisurely floated by on the lake, and we encountered deer on the road leading in both nights- such a welcome change from our city life!

Well appointed kitchen and bathroom, had lovely toiletries laid out which would've been welcome had we forgotten anything, much appreciated wifi and widescreen as well. The hurricane windows let us turn off the ac and enjoy the ocean breeze when it cooled down screens throughout- only sad it was a big buggy to sit outside with a cup of tea after dusk, but instead we took our cups and walked a few houses down to the ocean view right which was just around the corner.

Overall incredible location, stunning views (3 sides are water, two blocked by privacy hedge) and a beautiful place to stay! We will absolutely return!

My family spent 4 wonderful nights at this beautiful cottage by the lake. We thoroughly enjoyed having breakfast or taking a nap in the lovely backyard, taking in the view of the peaceful lake. All the photos and descriptions accurately reflect the cottage's appearance, amenities and more. The property is clean and beautifully maintained. Nancy, the owner, was most helpful and prompt in answering all of our questions and concerns. We would definitely recommend Nancy's home-away-from-home paradise to anyone who seeks a quiet, charming stay on Long Island.
