Charming and immaculate hideaway
I stayed here with my husband and daughter for a week in August, and I cannot say enough good things about this home. For starters, the East Marion location was perfect - just 5 or 6 minutes to the bustling town of Greenport, yet far enough removed to feel like we had our own secret hideaway. There's a gorgeous beach about 10 minutes walk up the road, another sand-filled patch at the end of the street, and of course the beautiful lake (though not swimmable) right off the back deck. Each morning we woke in what felt like a cottage out of a fairytale - bustling leaves, total privacy, pleasant wind chimes (not the annoying kind), and of a couple of gorgeous swans (who like croissants apparently!) The house, while not huge on square footage, makes a mathematician's use of space; everything is laid out efficiently and we were surprised how much storage space was available, even in the bathroom. The owner has provided everything necessary to make you feel at home - even a small welcome basket of essentials like shampoo, soap, razors, maps, etc. The deck is heavenly and, like the rest of the house, is very tastefully decorated - no "rental looking" stuff here! There's a comfy hammock and great outdoor dining table under a cupola, the latter of which can easily accommodate extra dinner guests. The BBQ grill (like nearly everything else in this home) was brand new and the washer/dryer in the bathroom was a huge help with a child. The brand new pullout couch in the living room was extremely comfortable and can easily fit 2 children or adults. Also worth noting is the outdoor shower which only added to one's sense of communing with nature at this bucolic oasis. The owner was all too willing to help both before and during our trip, and any questions were responded to immediately and thoroughly. In my opinion, the pictures do NOT do this place justice - it is far prettier than the photos suggest. I am a discriminating native New Yorker with tons of travel under my belt (both luxury and otherwise), and I would undoubtedly stay at this home again. Anyone visiting should make sure to see Greenport and should absolutely get a beach pass (easy thru Town Hall) during the peak summer months. Goosecreek and New Suffolk Beaches were wonderful, though there are many more to see. Ditto on the vineyards, though Osprey's Dominion is a favorite for the music and ability to bring in food. Aura was a great restaurant find. Overall, a fabulous, relaxing stay w lots to do if you choose.
