A Piece of Paradise A Holiday Paradise

We spent a great time at Villa Mimoza at Kalkan, to us it seems to be a piece of paradise on earth!

We really loved the view and enjoyed bathing in the pool.
The garden is full with wonderful plants and having Al Fresco dining in the pergola is just fantastic!
The villa itself just luxurious and spacious, also very well equipped and totally clean.
The welcome arrangement and the owner`s organization concerning our stay at villa mimoza has been super!

We enjoyed Kalkan with its charming Old Town, we often strolled around in the early morning or in the evening, of course always accompanied by the nice dogs in the streets.
Dinner was great at the Nar Restaurant (our favourite!), we also loved the simple traditional food (Guvec) at Iso`s Kitchen, sitting at Belgins Kitchen was a special and nice experience.

Patara is the most beautiful beach we have ever seen. We went there as often as we could!
Xanthos, Islamlar, Bezirgan, Kaputas Beach: we could visit so many interesting and beautiful places in short distance from the villa!
Our favourite shopping place was the greengrocery with its plenty of fresh and tasty fruits and vegetables! Also the bakery in the small village above the villa, were we could fetch oven warm bread all day long.
The people we met were very friendly.
Many thanks to Katherine for this wonderful stay, we really would love to come back!

Villa Mimoza, Kalkan

Our first visit to Turkey and what a treat! Luxurious and spacious villa, very well equipped and beautifully furnished with stunning views across the charming town of Kalkan. The weather was very hot during our stay but there were plenty of places to retreat from the sun - the covered outdoor dining area with comfy seating and of course the delightful pool which was cleaned daily.

Highlights of our visit: a boat trip for the day including mud bath, plenty of swimming and tasty freshly cooked lunch; a visit to Saklikent Gorge (but be prepared to get very wet - it is refreshing!); Patara beach - 15 minutes by bus. As well as the pool, our two teenage children enjoyed scuba diving at Kalkan Dive Centre and the water sports at the Beach Club.

Our evenings were spent sampling the delicious food from a variety of restaurants in Kalkan - all excellent with service to match! The restaurants serving fresh trout in Islamar village are also worth a visit.

A car is not essential as it is possible to walk down to the town and there are plenty of taxis (reasonably priced) available to take you back up the hill! As we were there for a fortnight we did hire a car for three days in the second week to do some exploring and Katherine was most helpful in organising this for us, as well as airport transfers etc.

This was a wonderful holiday and we look forward to visiting Kalkan and Villa Mimoza again in the future.

Thank you

Villa Mimoza, Kalkan - June/July 2012

We had a fantastic 2 week stay at Villa Mimoza in Kalkan between June and July 2012. The villa was stunning and exceeded our expectations. The 2 main bedrooms are enormous and the third is a good sized double. There are en-suites for the upstairs’ bedrooms and a shower and toilet downstairs, more than enough options to keep everybody happy. Good sized living and kitchen/dining area and really good outdoor space with a great pool area and of course those fantastic views of Kalkan Bay just add to the sense of luxury.
This is all well maintained by the local service company who tend the pool and outside area twice daily and perform a thorough clean and change of bedding, towels, etc, once a week.
Villa Mimoza is a family home and we felt very much at home. It is well furnished and has all the accoutrements required for alfresco living and is situated in a quiet area with a good amount of privacy.
This was our first time in a villa and we had some reservations about booking direct but our dealings with Katherine (the owner) could not have been easier who allayed any fears we may have had and provided excellent communication throughout and also booked our airport transfers which all went without a hitch.
This was also our first time in Kalkan and we thought it was a delightful place with wonderful warm local people who all seem dedicated to give you the best service (we know that they are ultimately out to get a sale, but they do it so nicely). We ate at a different restaurant every night and can honestly say that we didn’t have a bad meal or service anywhere. There are plenty to choose from, we were told by one restaurateur that there are 315 restaurants and of these 165 have rooftop terraces. Spoilt for choice indeed.
The only consideration you need to be aware of is the gradient of the hills, walking down from the villa to the harbour is not so much a problem (although there are a few areas where you need to take care), getting back up to the villa is where the taxi (or car hire if you are lucky) is a must. Our experience showed that the average cost of a taxi was between 12 and 15 TRL (£5 approx) and it was worth every penny. Did it put us off where we were staying or Kalkan........not a bit!
Lots of things to do in and around Kalkan, a number of which are mentioned in the previous reviews. Fantastic villa, fantastic location, fantastic weather, we would go back in a heartbeat.

Delighted with our stay at Villa Mimoza. The villa is beautifully presented and very well equipped.
Booking process very easy and excellent help and advice from the owners.
Sahin from the management company is very helpful and on hand if you have any queries.
We had never been to Kalkan before but loved it,people are warm and friendly and the choice of restaurants amazing,we particulary like Trio and Kaptan's but all looked good.
As we had a hire car we did visit Kas which is a fantastic drive along the beautiful coast road and we went to a couple of the historical sites which are really worth seeing.
Would highly recommend both Kalkan and Villa Mimoza, looking forward to our next visit.

A beautiful villa in lovely Kalkan

We had two weeks in June in this lovely villa. The villa is spacious, clean and well equipped. The pool and patio was cleaned every day and a Turkish guy came in daily to check if all was well.
The villa is situated on a hill outside the main area of Kalkan giving lovely views over the bay with a back drop of hills. The town centre is apparently 15 minutes walk but we had a car and parking was no problem.
Kalkan's small cobbled street are charming, have plenty of gift shops and lots of restaurants. Food in all of the restaurants that we visited was of a very high standard and reasonable priced (much cheaper that UK), We hired a Gulet from the harbour and had the whole boat to ourselves, the captain and his wife took us out to a beautiful bay and served us with a wonderful lunch. We were out for over three hours and all for 200 lire.
A drive up to the villages, in the mountain, and Saklikent Gorge revealed scenery that was stunning. This was our first time to Turkey and we didn't realise what a beautiful country it was.
The sandy beach of Patara was just a 15 minute drive away, this 15km beach has a beach bar for food and facilities. It was great for relaxing by the sea and sun.
Other days we enjoyed just sitting on the patio and swimming in the pool at Villa Mimoza.
All adds up to an enjoyable holiday that we would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

A home from home

Myself and my two best friends wanted a relaxing, fun, and sunny week away from London Town to celebrate an upcoming wedding and could not have been happier with our choice of destination.

It’s not often that pictures truly depict a place and in the case of Villa Mimosa - what you see is what you get. The Villa is beautiful and from the moment you walk in, it feels like a home from home.

Our day pretty much went like this -

- Moved from the beautiful comfy beds to sit round the pool for fruit, fresh breads and coffee.
- Sleep by the pool, dip in the pool, relax by the pool
- Lunch (normally a Barbie, salads, cheeses, olives, fresh breads)
- Sleep by the pool, dip in the pool, relax by the pool
- 4pm - cocktail hour and Fleetwood Mac by the pool
- Warm shower and change for either a delicious barbeque dinner using all local produce or a short stroll into the town to sample the finest Turkish food.

We went out on the boats one day and sailed round the islands which was fab and also took a trip to the beach but really the aim of our holiday was to totally chill out and that’s exactly what we did!

I would HIGHLY recommend Villa Mimoza and Kalkan and I will most definitely be paying another visit in the not to distant future.

Thank you to David and Katherine for suburb service and for a lifetime of memories.

Fantastic villa, fantastic holiday

We had an excellent 2 week stay at Villa Mimoza and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this villa.

Communication from the owners was fantastic; we were provided with excellent directions to and about the villa/ area, help on booking car hire and answers our numerous questions!

The villa is beautifully furnished, very clean and incredibly well looked after – the management team even came and put up our sun umbrellas every morning and took them down every evening.

We hired a car and did lots of exploring, including some Lycian Way walks where we saw lots of wild tortoise. Our favourite was the walk from Kas to Liman Agzi beach, set in a beautiful bay which is great for swimming and snorkelling and has a lovely taverna for lunch.

The market in Kalkan on Thursdays is not to be missed, particularly the lady who sits crossed legged on her stall making fresh pancakes with savoury and sweet fillings - absolutely delicious. The market is also great for fresh vegetables and fruits, cheeses, breads, etc and very reasonable and exceptionally good produce.

A visit to Kastellorizo, or Meis as the Turks call it, should not be missed. It’s a stunning Greek island just 20 minutes boat ride from Kas with great restaurants along the quay side and again some fantastic walking up over the centre of the island.

Turkey was a paradise for birdwatchers of both the large and small variety. Highlights for my husband included Eleanora's Falcon, Peregrine Falcon, Bonelli's Eagle, Cretzshmar's Bunting – the list goes on. For me, not such a keen birdwatcher, the highlight was the Golden Orioles.

The restaurants in Kalkan by the harbour are lovely, with outside seating and a very relaxed atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed cocktails at the Yacht Point and dinner at Aubergine.

If you are keen on watersports the Marina club by Kalkan Harbour is good for waterskiing but it is quite expensive due to petrol prices in Turkey. We didn’t get round to scuba diving but there are lots of places that do it so it shouldn’t be hard to find somewhere, Kas is particularly good for accessing the best dive sites.

In final summary; a great villa, in a lovely area, run by a very helpful couple. What's not to like!

Villa Mimoza in October

We stayed in the Villa Mimoza during October half term. The villa is spacious, tastefully furnished and very well equipped. The views are wonderful and by being further up the hill even more panoramic! We loved watching the sun set. There is plenty to do as well-we caught the bus to Kas and Patara. The bus station is a five minute walk from the villa and the buses are cheap and the drivers friendly. Patara beach was spectacular! We went on a boat trip around the coast which was very relaxing and there were plenty of opportunities for swimming. The food on board was amazing. We booked it the evening before. One of our highlights was walking a section of the Lycian Way which can be reached by heading up the hill out of Kalkan. This is a perfect time of year for walking. The scenery is fantastic and we didn't meet anyone all day (except a wild tortoise!). Long trousers and sensible footwear would be advisable though as the path is uneven in places. We only had one morning of thunderstorms but the sun was out again in the afternoon. The Thursday market was fascinating and as it was the end of the season there were even more bargains to be had! This was the same in the town too. The range of restaurants in the town would suit all tastes and pockets and the useful guide in the villa has many recommendations as well as ideas for places to visit. A car is not necessary for a week but it would be easy to hire a car for a day to visit somewhere further afield or there are plenty of taxis. Katherine arranged taxi transfers to and from the airport for us which were extremely reliable and efficient. We definitely hope to return to the Villa Mimoza.

A perfect week at Villa Mimoza

From the moment we arrived we knew we'd made a good decision on renting Villa Mimoza, there is so much choice in Kalkan but Mimoza was perfect, stylishly done out, beautiful pool area with nice furniture and great views across the bay, plus the pretty plants really add to the ambience of it all. The walk into town is fine (15 mins), I just wish there were more street lights at the beginning! (so take a torch), we even did the walk back up several times, yes it hurts a bit towards the end but isn't that bad! or there is plenty of parking on the slope down if you want to drive, plus taxi's are plentiful and you can call to arrange a pick up from the villa. I think the villa is in the perfect location as is slightly away from the hustle and bustle of everything so very quiet and peaceful..I would highly recommend the villa and area to anyone. Great correspondence from the owner from the beginning to end and the villa and pool area are kept spotless with regular visits from the maintenance team and cleaner.

holiday in the sun!

We spent a very hot but excellent week in this beautiful villa which was immaculately clean and beautifully furnished. It was exceptionally well equipped, light and the air-conditioing in the bedrooms was an essential ingredient due to the heat of our August stay. We didn't venture very far but were always greeted with friendly locals and the resort town of Kalkan was delightful with a huge variety of restaurants and cafes. The villa had a very useful guide to many of the local facilities and places to eat and the market on a Thursday was a must! We also took an evening boat trip which was great fun and most of the boats in the harbour seemed to offer much the same deal but the food cooked off a barbecue on the back of the boat and in the ship's galley was amongst the best meals we had. The villa's pool was beautifully clean although visitors with young children would need to take care as there is no shallow end to the pool. The mid-week maid service changing the linen was also much appreciated in the heat. It is a fairly steep walk down into the town and in the heat only the fittest amongst us attempted the walk back up the hill but there were always plenty of local taxis around to take us back up the hill.
