The Madeira Wine cottages are a private, small complex of four 1 bedroom houses in the village of Calheta, which is situated about 300 meters above sea level, on the south-west coast of Madeira. Because of the location of the cottages on the island, it is a necessity to have a hire car. You can contact us if you need advice by hiring a car.
The cottages have opened in 2007 and are named after different types of Madeira wine. Sercial - Boal - Verdelho - Malmsey. It is a lovely location for nature loving visitors whom like to stay in an environment surrounded by farmland, vineyards and gardens. From all the cottages there is a lovely view over the hills of Calheta to the Atlantic Ocean.
Calheta is one of the oldest parishes of the island and one of the first to be explored by the primitive colonizers. Founded on the 1st of June 1502. Beside its attractive location, Calheta - which actually means 'small beach' in Portuguese - has an old sugar cane factory, founded in 1901 and still producing sugar cane honey and 'aguardente' (sugar cane spirit). Calheta is also famous the wide variety of fish to be found in its coastal waters.

I was born in the Netherlands and live since 1990 on the island of Madeira. Beside renting out the cottage I work as a mountain guide.
The 4 cottages were build in 2007.
The cottages are situated on a lovely location with beautiful views, over the fields and vineyards, towards the ocean.
