Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Lapta - Villa Baba
Located In Lapta, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 en-suite), sleeps 6

Villa Baba is located in a quiet residential area with a mixture of local Cypriot and British residents. Built in a former olive grove and completed in 2006, the villa has been decorated with a mixture of local handmade and modern furniture. The villa stands in a very large garden, which has been designed by local a garden designer using native trees and shrubs, blending with the original olive trees. The garden has a large 10x5m overflow swimming pool with outside shower.

Flights: Ercan Airport located 40 min. drive away, is Northern Cyprus's international airport. Manchester, Stansted and a number of other airports offer direct flights, transfer is usually free if you are booking car hire. Larnaca, in the south of the island, offers more flights and is usually cheaper. Again, the taxi is approximately 60 min. Please note you will not be able to pick up a hire car from Larnaca, due to insurance, you can however, pick up a hire car from Ercan if required. We can arrange taxi from both airports and car hire on if required. The local managing agent will meet you at the villa with keys and provide you with a welcome pack of essentials. She will be available to answer any questions or queries you may have during your stay.

Getting around: The villa is in walking distance to the sea, shops, bars and restaurants and there is a very good local bus service which will pick up and drop anywhere along the main road. However, to see the real Northern Cyprus and explore the many attractions a car is essential. they also drive on the left which makes getting around very easy. The roads are quite good, but please be aware of speed limits as there are a number of speed cameras along the main from Lapta at Kyrenia.

Further information: Northern Cyprus has a wonderful climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year with the temperature rarely dropping below 70F from May to September. The people are very friendly and helpful, with many of them speaking English. Children are particularly welcomed in restaurants and are well catered for. Northern Cyprus is still relatively unspoilt with no big fast food chains present, although you can purchase British favourites at the local supermarkets. The currency is the Turkish Lira and all major credit cards area accepted.

My wife, myself and 2 friends spent a fantastic stay at Villa Baba in the first 2 weeks of October. From the initial contact with the owner to our final taxi drive back to Larnaca the service and smooth arrangements could not be better. We were met by the lovely Christina, who not only showed us around the villa, but also took us in her own car to the Supermarket as our hire care was booked for the following day. The villa is situated in a quiet short road of 3 villas and is extremely well appointed with every comfort provided for a relaxing holiday and I can only reiterate the words of the previous reviewers. The terrace at the back became our "living area" for the 2 weeks with stunning views of the mountains and looking out on to a beautiful infinity swimming pool. To get the best out of the area, I would recommend a hire car which we hired from the Sevener company who do deliver direct to the villa. There are a few Restaurants within walking distance, with the Lapida Hotel especially recommended. If you like a specific dish like klefitico or Mary's special chicken, just let them know by 5 o'clock and it will be ready for you in the evening - service indeed!! Christina provided a very useful hand made map of other restaurants in the area as well as other points of interest and throughout our stay herself and George were a constant source of knowledge and support when needed. Thanks to all involved in a truly memorable holiday. We will be back!!

Holiday in June 2012

The lovely 'Villa Baba'. We stayed for eight nights.

You get what the owner states in the description, with no surprises and top notch appliances and fittings.

The total outside space is excellent. It makes you feel happy cos it's big and you're not bumping into everyone in your party. Because it is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac it has a lot of privacy, especially around the pool area, not 100% privacy - but who cares - get your clobber off - you're on holiday!!

The swimming pool is in the sun all day and it was like stepping into a tepid bath whilst we were there, unusually hot weather for June (in the forties). The pool is very large, clean and well maintained by a professional company.

The patio leading out from the living room is where you will spend the majority of your time, we certainly did. We didn't have the TV on once or go into the living room area at all, apart from getting the occasional book.

Other reviewers have stated about the necessity for a car, it's true. Having red number plate’s screams 'tourist' and they might flash you or get a bit too close for comfort; it's just the way they drive. Ignore them.

Northern Cyprus should not be compared to the South of the island. It's rustic. It’s nothing like Limassol of Paphos. No one recognises it as a country apart from Turkey. Therefore, it has its issues. Items or parts might be out of stock or required to be purchased from Turkey. But if you can have a laugh about it and not get irritated by the fact that the water or the electricity may go off, then you'll enjoy it.

We didn't have water for a couple of days, but that didn't matter. There's a water cooler. We used water from the cooler and heated it in the kettle for the bathrooms to have a strip wash and did the same for the dishes. No problem. We have water meters at our home in Cheshire, so we are always mindful of how much we use anyway.

Having met Christine, I feel that unkind comments are not justifiable. Christine is not 'Staff', she is a neighbour who will assist should any of us need help. We all need a friendly neighbour and what a mess we’d all be in if she wasn’t there to lend her guidance or a helping hand.

Angela should be very proud of her villa in the sun and I’m so glad we stayed there.

Fantastic villa and holiday

My wife and i , and our 3 year old son have just returned from Northern Cyprus and i can honestly say that our stay at the Villa Baba was the best holiday we have ever spent ! Everything about it was marvelous ! The villa is situated in a quiet and very picturesque area and the neighbours are very friendly and considorate . It also has everything you need for your stay and if you require any help then the lovely Christine is at hand . Beaches and shops etc are not too far away , and although i would recommend car hire , there is a bus service from the main road approx 200m away. There are many restraunts in the local area also and i found the local taxi service to be punctual and reasonably cheap . All in all i would recommend villa baba to anyone looking for a great time in the TRNC . Looking at dates for next year already ! Can't wait !

Holiday in May

4 out of 5
Review Submitted: 16 June 2011 Date of Stay: May 2011
My husband and I and my mother (88 yrs) had a very relaxing holiday in villa Baba. Except for sleeping in the house, we spend most of our time outside, around the pool, or making tours with our rented car or going for hikes.

We were a bit surprised how English the neigbourhood, the restaurants and the close surroundings were. Nothing wrong with that, but coming all the way to Cyprus we went looking for true Cypriotic food and ancient villages. As soon as we went into the mountains, we found what we were looking for. In the guestbook we wrote some tips, like walking to Bellapais, visiting an Armenian village with beautiful local food or drinking coffee with very hospitable men who play games all afternoon. I hope the women do the same ;-)

Christine, the caretaker lives down the road. She helped us out in the beginning with candles when there was a powercut for an hour. Also we went looking for her when there was no waterpressure or when we had trouble getting hot water. These were minor problems. It might have helped if there was a small guide in the house for these kind of things because the solution was in both cases just a switch.

For those traveling light with Ryan air: books and guides are available in the house.

All in all we had a really good holiday, good beds, nice kitchen, so much space and o, what a lovely pool! We miss that everyday.

Glynn / Maymard. August 2010.

We enjoyed the peaceful location and found the locals to be friendly and helpful. Car advisable in order to access the good choice of restaurants, beaches and other amenities along the coastline. Kyrenia is worth a visit and would recommend the boat trips.

The villa was modern and quite spacious accommodating our party of 6 people. However, the villa was advertised as being air conditioned but the air conditioning in main living area had been broken for 4 weeks prior to our arrival and was not repaired during our 2 week stay. Air conditioning was working in the bedrooms but we were very dissapointed not to have this facility in the main living area, especially as we were there in August. Temperatures in the living room were around 35 degrees and climbed to around 40 degrees when cooking. Were advised that a part was awaited from Turkey and a delivery date was not given. In view of this we were disappointed that we were not told about this at the onset, as we would have tried to seek an alternative. When we requested an additional fan Christine left us with impression that we were being somewhat unreasonable, but did provide one 2 days later. However, in August, a fan is no substitute for air conditioning and found we had to sit in the bedrooms to get some respite from the heat. We missed not being able to sit in the living room as a group.

Missed the evening swims as the pool lights were not working.

Our stay could have been enhanced if Christine had explained how to access hot water and how to turn the gas on, rather than us having to search about for this. Would also have been good if we had been provided with a change of sheets after the first week, 2 weeks using the same sheets is not good.

Did not find Christine particulally helpful. Over the 2 weeks only saw her on our arrival, the next morning, the day she delivered the fan, one evening when she came to advise us that she was going away for 3 days, and the day before we left. She was not particularly friendly or readily available and gave us the impression that she was avoiding us.

The owner was slow to return the security deposit, although did get it after 4 weeks. She was reluctant to acknowledge that the lack of air conditioning in the living room had any significant impact on our stay.

Overall the villa was nice but would not recommend it for the reasons above. Northen Cyprus has many nice villas and would not rent this particular villa again.
Owner's Response: In response to the above. The guests arrived at approx 18.30 hrs on the Saturday night. I informed them that the air-con in the lounge was not working and we were waiting a part from Turkey (as an embargoed country very difficult to source parts), unfortunately just before they arrived I also noticed 1 of the 2 big fans had expired, I informed them of same and said I would try to rectify ASAP.
Sunday am I went up to the villa and was hit with a barrage of complaints. 1. Additional fan.... I explained I could not source one on a Sunday but would get one first thing Mon morning which I did. (Also found small white one which I gave them to install in kitchen) My husband went up and tried to fix air-con. He found villa all doors/ windows open fan on despite shutters being there to keep villa cool in summer.
2.not enough chairs despite 6 on back terrace and 4 on front I then sourced an additional 2 from storage area above lounge.
3. table on poolside terrace not big enough... I offered to get a couple of men in to move table from back terrace (stone table) to poolside terrace (offer declined)
4. back terrace too hot. I spend 3 hours up there trying to organise shade eventually filling antique type pot with stones and water to accommodate Parasol
5. Advised guests not to move solid wood dining table outside... they did
6.pool lights the lights expired the evening before the guests arrived and John the pool guy tried to replace when they were here explained that pool would have to be drained to change bulbs they accepted this. would not be applicable while they were here. The property has 3 outside lights poolside!
7. A complete change of bedding is available in every room and also washing machine provided.
8.I advised the guests I was going away for 3 days as I had to go into hospital again after being 3 weeks post major surgery!!
9.In reference to the hot water the villa is served by solar panels and an immersion heater which is clearly labelled is available to top up the hot water if large party's in residence.Gas was switched on for their arrival and gas bottle checked so plenty gas!
10. Finally the owner and myself and my husband did all we could humanly do to accommodate these people but obviously not enough. We have had no complaints before or after this incidence so can only put this down to a personality clash between this lady and myself. And in no way does this reflect on the owner who was not in attendance!
Regards
Christine

Excellent Holiday

Review Submitted: 30 September 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
As an older family we were looking for somewhere for us all to have our own space and take time out to enjoy the sun. Villa Baba was the perfect choice for what we required, time to lie by the excellent pool and not get under each others feet.
Villa Baba is situated in a quiet spot within easy reach of the road to Kyrenia and within a few Kilometres of some nice beaches. We traveled via Larnaca airport, from where we were picked up by a Taxi arranged through the Villa owner, who also arranged car hire for the week. This was a seamless process and worked far better than i ever thought it would, making the holiday stress free.
The description of the Villa does not do it justice, it was very clean on arrival, well furnished and very comfortable. Anything you required for a good relaxing holiday was available, including plenty of towels, kitchen utensils and other equipment. What really made this Holiday for us, was the good sized pool, and its setting. It was very clean and kept that way, as was the surrounding area and the sun loungers, all of which were in good condition.
There is a bar within walking distance along with some restaurants and a small shop. I would recommend hiring a car for the short drive to some supermarkets, a larger selection of restaurants, fast food outlets, and of course Kyrenia. I would specifically recommend the small ice cream parlour a couple of kilometres down the road, which has some fantastic flavours, worth a trip in its own right.
Overall i would thoroughly recommend this villa, It has all you want for a relaxing holiday, in a clean and well equipped environment.

Lovely holiday

5 out of 5
Review Submitted: 25 August 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Having never been to Cyprus - North or South, we did not know what to expect. When we arrived, the first thing that struck us was the amazing backdrop of the mountains, the beautiful Olive trees, and the lovely, charming villa that was to be our home for the next 2 weeks nestled into all of this.
The villa was modern, clean with all the mod cons, and a perfect size for a family of 4 with a room to spare. The pool was a lovely size, and many a day was spent lounging around it.
On exploring days there was loads in the area to see and do - castles, waterparks, snorkelling, kyrenia, nicosia, mountain villages, the list is endless.
Eating wise, there is a fully equipped kitchen or a lovely BBQ area for the nights when you stay in, and plenty of bars and restaurants close by for the nights you don't. Some even have a pick up and drop off service so that you don't have to drive.
AND then .... there was Christina and her husband George. Charged with giving us the keys, and making sure everything was okay, they surpassed themselves. A wonderful couple who went out of their way to help us. Knowledgable as to where to eat, drink, visit, shop they were there for us. Nothing was too much trouble, the kids feel in love with them as did we.
Our holiday was fantastic, we were very sad to leave - the place, the people, all became very dear to us. We shall return - very soon I hope.

cyprus revisited

3 out of 5
Review Submitted: 12 August 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
having lived for many years during the 1980's in northern cyprus i was keen to return for a few weeks to relax in the sun. I spent 2 weeks at Villa baba in July with my teenage daughter and her friend. The pool was the main reason that i choose this particular villa so was slightly disappointed that none of the underwater lights were working so our planned night time swims were not possible. The location is pretty rural and perhaps not ideal for everyone. There is a British pub a short walk away but to get a real taste of the island and it's people i would recommend visiting the small villages a short drive away which are still relatively untouched by the large influx of british expats who now live in northern cyprus. The villa itself was clean and comfortable and the air conditioning in the bedrooms much appreciated. The large upstairs turreted room is used as the owners storage and is kept locked .Christine was on hand to assist with anything that was required and lives nearby if needed. A car is essential if you are staying in this villa . There is a beach a short walk away but there are many much nicer beaches a short drive along the coast. It is perhaps not ideal for families with teenagers unless you are willing to drive them everywhere although there are buses which can be caught on the main road which is only about a 10 minute walk from the villa. My daughter and her friend went clubbing one night in Kyrenia and i deceided to treat us all to a night in a hotel as the option of myself in the villa alone until the early hours was a bit too creepy!! Nothern Cyprus is a lovely island with many great restaurants and beach activities. At certain times of the year turtle beach is great to see the turtles hatch and make their way into the sea. Bellapais is beautiful for an evening meal on the lit terraces with a breathtaking view of the island and sea below. salamis ruins at Famagusta is a great day trip and you must spend a day taking one of the many boat trips that leave from Kyrenia Harbour where you are served a lovely lunch and stop a few times throughout the day to swim in the sea. . Do take time out during your stay to dine at many of the basic but delicious turkish family run reataurants dotted around the island as this is the real cyprus as i remember it and is their livliehood. Roast beef dinners, fish and chips and english karaoke nights are best enjoyed in England
