The house is truly magnificent
For me English Harbour is the place to be on the island. I love all the parts of Antigua that I have seen, and I have been here several times; but English Harbour is for me the nicest part. The obvious centre of activity is the Yacht club with its constant stream of fine boats and the excitement of the international ‘yachtie’ crowd that crew them. The restaurants are fun and lively and the restaurants catered for our “cheap and simple” evening meals, as well as the grander occasions. The tennis club is a great social centre, especially on Friday evenings, and the marina has a decent provisions store. Pigeon beach is a 10 minute walk and similarly Nelson’s dockyard.
I don’t feel that any other place on the island has the same classy, vibrant feel: St. John’s is too cruise ship dominated, and it’s crowded, Jolly Harbour is, I thought, a little tacky, and no other destination comes close to the ambience of English Harbour.
To the house itself. The house is truly magnificent; occupying the prime spot above the marina and the yacht club which is a ten minute walk away, the views of the bay and the floating hardware are unforgettable! The house slept all twelve of our party in great comfort; the rooms were spacious and luxurious and the communal areas were big enough for twice our party’s size. On a dinner party night the verandah, kitchen and living room accommodated thirty people easily and could have held more. The kitchen, sun deck, swimming pool and gym are all dimensioned so that six couples have plenty of room.
Everything worked - all the time; the maid service was unobtrusive, friendly and efficient and the automatic gates and security system gave us a feeling of security that my wife was especially grateful for. I cannot recommend Harbour Hill highly enough and will definitely visit again. I would be happy to correspond with potential guests who want to know more about my experiences there.
