Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Lesbos - Captain's View
It has 2 bedrooms, 2 private bathrooms and the property sleeps 6

This renovated old stone cottage in the heart of picturesque Molyvos has stunning views of the sea, mountains and harbour from the balcony of the open plan living room/ kitchen and from the front downstairs bedroom. The two downstairs double bedrooms are en - suite, one having a spa bath, brass fittings and classic Greek washbasins in each.

Although retaining the atmosphere of a traditional Greek style family home with gorgeous old stone walls including niches and dark stained wooden beamed ceilings, the house is offered with all modern amenities.

Further sleeping accommodation for two is provided in the gallery above the living room/kitchen area.

Sunset: Spend the evening cocktail hour on the balcony enjoying the uninterrupted spectacular view of the sunsets, night after night after night!!! They are different every evening.

Shops: The bakery is less than 2 minutes stroll away.

Mini market stocking fresh fruit, vegetables and other provisions only a further 1 minute walk from the front door.

Peaceful Haven: Although the house is located in the middle of the village, it is in a peaceful and quiet neighbourhood, well away from any possible cause of disturbance.

About Melinda Mcrostie

I am Australian even though i feel Greek because I have been here most of my life.

My mother visited Molyvos with us and met a Greek fisherman and married him. What was so amazing those years ago what that Giogios married a divorced women who had children. Ever seen the Shirley Valentine movie well that was my mother before the movie was even produced.

My mother Jenifer married Giogios the Greek fisherman (which he was, just retired) and we moved to Greece in1972 .We have been visiting since 1968.. (Maybe i shouldn’t write dates as this shows my age)

I was brought up in Athens and Molyvos. Molyvos because it was my step fathers village which we all love and spent every holiday here.

I have worked with tourism all my life and feel that what is missing is quality accommodation for people who love Greece and want to experience the real Greek life and stay in self catering houses that are comfortable and affordable.

I am happily married with 3 children and there is much more to all the story but if you want more details you will just have to come and visit us.

I feel unique as i know of many Greeks that have gone to Australia and other countries but i don’t know of any Australians that have been brought up in Greece.

Melinda Mcrostie purchased this house in 2002
Why Melinda Mcrostie chose Lesbos

After living for many years in the village of Molyvos we thought that Captains View would be a great place for people to come and stay as it has a fantastic view of the whole bay and in a very central position. We bought it, did it up and wish it was us staying there.

Great for families or friends. Perfect for people wanting a bit more privacy than stain in a hotel. A home away from home.

What makes this house unique

Situated in the centre of the village. all amenities only a few minutes walk away, tucked away in a quiet corner. The beach just down the hill. Stone walls give this house a typical Greek feel with the many other touches that compliment the ambience.

Car parking 5 minutes walk. Really impressive view from the balcony

A place and a view to get addicted

It was a lucky pick to find "The Captain's View"

What we had been looking for was a place off the beaten track, with no package tourism around, just the real Greek Island experience... and there it is, in the middle of Molivos and yet quiet, with a fabulous view across the bay, a short walk from the harbour and its restaurants.

The house is really lovely, equipped with everything you need and the view from the balcony just makes you watch the day go by, addictive.

We enjoyed our stay very much and the next time we will be in Lesvos we will surely try to return!

Simply Wonderful!

Review Submitted: 19 August 2012 Date of Stay: June 2012
My wife and I had the great good fortune to stay at The Captain's View for a little over a month, early June to early July, 2012 and wished we could have stayed longer... Being in this lovely cottage was a magical experience, one we'll never forget.

The cottage itself is really charming, very tastefully decorated and has all the amenities listed. It sits perched in a neighborhood setting with stunning panoramic views of the Molyvos harbor, beach area and out onto the Aegean. Neighboring villages dot the distant shorelines and hills.

We were very happy to find that the cottage was impeccably clean when we arrived and was kept that way throughout our stay since someone comes to clean and change linens and towels twice a week.

The Captain's View kitchen is well equipped which enabled us to cook in easily, including two cooking lessons with Maria, the owner's aunt. Also, having wireless internet in the cottage was a very big plus and made it easy to stay in touch back home. Another big plus, The Captain's View is conveniently located close to the bakery and several mini-marts. There's also a local butcher a little bit farther down and just off "Wisteria Lane".

A brief word about the owners, Melinda and Theo. They were wonderful! We cannot thank them enough for all they did to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. We would not have had the great experience we did were it not for them. They were outgoing, helpful and so very generous with their time, such as helping with taxis arrangements and suggesting things to do. On one occasion, Melinda even spent over 30 minutes on the phone for me trying to resolve my greek cell phone problems. I'm still amazed at how concerned and helpful she was. We were frequent diners at their wonderful restaurant, The Captain's Table. Food and hospitality alike were wonderful.

With its active fleet of small fishing boats, charming cobblestone streets (comfortable walking shoes are essential) and open air restaurants, Molyvos was everything we hoped it would be.

We were so lucky to come across this wonderful island and equally fantastic place to stay. Melinda, the owner, was a gem by arranging a last-minute rental for us and at a very reasonable price too.
The house is at the top of the village but well worth the effort of getting there. No need to go further than the baker's on the corner and the supermarket a few yards beyond if feeling very lazy and just wanting to sit on the terrace with 180º views of the Aegean.

If you want to experience Greek village life I recommend Captain's View Cottage in the Aegean fishing village of Molyvos on the island of Lesbos. The cottage is authentic but well appointed and comfortable. It is great for two couples, but we somehow squeezed in 6 visiting grandchildren on their post-grad O/S experience during our two week stay in June. Molyvos is a quaint village with narrow twisting wisteria-covered cobblestoned streets. The stone houses of the village tumble down the hillside from the Venetian castle atop to the spectacular fishing harbour. Breakfast on the balcony of the cottage and evening drinks watching the glorious sunsets are magical experiences. There are so many axcellent tavernas in Molyvos that we never had time to eat dinner at home. The property is very well managed and presented.

Paradise!

Review Submitted: 28 February 2011 Date of Stay: May 2010
This property was even more beautiful than it looks on- line. The house was spotless and beautifully decorated; the view was breathtaking... we stayed for one week following a week-long hiking trip in Turkey and I don't think we could imagine a better place to relax! Lots of room for 2 couples or a family - we spent hours enjoying the view from the balcony.

Melinda as our hostess was friendly and had answers to all of our questions - also gave excellent advice on what to see on the island.

The bakery was 1/2 a block; the shopping street only a few minutes away, and the waterfront restaurants and beach in easy walking distance. Fun hiking trails nearby.

All in all a paradise that I would recommend to anyone except perhaps those who are mobility-challenged... Molyvos is built on a steep slope so most walking is up or down - kept us in shape so we could be hungry enough to enjoy the fabulous food that we found in every restaurant we ate in!

Best vacation ever

Review Submitted: 15 February 2011 Date of Stay: July 2010
My friend and I lived in the Captains View-house for a week (July 2010) and we DID NOT want to leave! The welcoming house, the beautyful view from the huge terrace will stay with us forever.

Molivos is so easy-going, so relaxed; and the house is situated smack in the middle of everyday life, so you feel like a local immidiately.

We even had the good luck to watch jumping dolpins from the terrace one day...and it's very hard not to spend all waking hours enjoying the magnicficent panorama from the terrace "in your own house".

Thank you Melinda & Theo for our best vacation ever!!! We will be back!

We had a really wonderful time here. The cottage is beautifully decked out and it provides a magnificent view of the Aegeon. Both bedrooms are wonderful and the kitchen is great. The town of Molovos is really special with lots of atmosphere, wonderful restaurants, and shops. The beach is rocky but beautiful. The owners are warm and helpful. We would go again.
