Is this really the UK?
Throughout our week in Cornwall and at The Ferry House, we kept asking ourselves "Is this really the UK?". The climate, scenery and vibe of Cornwall is unlike anything I have experienced in the UK and The Ferry House adds to that relaxed holiday vibe. Cornwall is beautiful, stunning coastal scenery and lots of great attractions. We enjoyed all the tourist places - The Minack Theatre, The Eden Project, Land's End as well as trips to St Ives, Penzance and to the fabulous Rick Stein emporium in Padstow. You don't have to go far though to enjoy the Cornish coast, it's right on your doorstep here.
The location and views from the house are unsurpassed. The owners have clearly put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into renovating this house to a boutique standard and although it's not there yet, it is well on the way and the quirky bits adds to the charm of the property. Start the day with a swim in the pool and end it with a dip in the hot tub! In between, open your gate and find Cornwall's most dog friendly beach. Our dog thought the whole of Cornwall was a doggie's paradise! The gardens are also very well maintained at the property and the house was clean.
Be prepared for the arduous walk down the coastal path to get to the house though and pack light! Sainsbury was great, the driver took our groceries down on his trolley, not an easy task! Pre-order your groceries and pick up local delicacies such as seafood, hog's pudding (sausage), goose bread (crusty) and the makings for a Cornish cream tea. Scarlet's in the village is great for local wines and beers and tapas nights! Drive round to nearby Hayle and enjoy the best Cornish pasty at Phelp's followed by pineapple 'n' coconut ice-cream at the local ice-cream shop.
This house is light and airy with good basic facilities, we spent the week living in beachwear and sunbathing - "Is this really the UK?" Even on a stormy day, the views and atmosphere on the beach was great although it would have been good to sit round a real fire!
The owners were always on hand before and during our stay when needed but unobtrusive. Nice welcome gifts included home grown apples, home made jam and local sparkling wine which is very drinkable!
We will be back but I am loathe to recommend it to others in case it gets too popular, ssh....
