Ravello is a beautiful town on the Amalfi Coast in northern Italy. Perched high above the coast, a holiday home in Ravello affords its guests some of the finest views in the whole of Campania. Ravello is known primarily for two things; its gardens and its annual classical music festival, during which it is almost impossible to find a Ravello hotel room or rental villa unless you book early.
Ravello has become very popular with honeymooners, as there is an unavoidable sense of natural beauty and peace throughout the town. The two large botanical gardens, Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo are marvels of tropical vegetation, offering stunning views over the Mediterranean as well as a delightfully peaceful place to walk. The San Pantaleone Cathedral or Duomo is also well worth visiting from any Ravello property too.
Ravello has a long connection to classical music, having been the inspiration for much of Wagner’s work. Ravello is the home to a whole host of classical concerts from March until November, often occurring in the botanical gardens of Ravello, where the astonishing views only add to the atmosphere and excitement.
Its location at the top of the Dragone Valley means that Revello walking holidays are fantastic. There are a huge number of routes throughout the Campanian countryside and along the Amalfi Coast, and there are plenty of fantastic bars, restaurants and cafes in which to find some refreshment after long hours in Ravello walking.
If you have time, either on your way from the airport to your Ravello accommodation or on your way home, a tour of Naples is well worth the time. The city is brimming with fascinating places of interest, and tours to Pompeii or the amazing ruins of Paestum are easily arranged from the centre of the city.
Walking in Ravello is a favoured past time throughout the year due to the wonderfully mild climate the town enjoys. During the height of summer, temperatures are easily warm enough to take advantage of the fantastic beaches of the Amlafi Coast, averaging around 26˚C in July and August. The best time for walks in Ravello is between the end of April and the beginning of June, and again between the end of September until late October when temperatures still average over 20˚C, but the heat of midday is reduced.
Naples’ Capodichino Airport is the closest to any of the holiday rental properties in Ravello, which receives many daily flights from across the UK, provided by a good range of airlines from the ‘no frills’ flights to the more luxurious and expensive. The roads of the Amalfi Coast are notoriously treacherous, but there are plenty of bus and taxi services available from Amalfi, just a few miles down the coast.
