Puget is one of the smallest villages in the Luberon region of France, and at last count (2006) had a population of just 600 people. The main draw of this tiny hamlet is its location, on a gentling sloping hillside deep in the heart of the Luberon Natural Park, yet just a few short kilometres from an array of amenities and more populous tourist towns and villages. Puget, in the Vaucluse department, should not be confused with Puget-Theniers, which is 200km away in the Alpes-Maritimes department of south-eastern France.
The majority of visitors to Puget are hoping for a relaxing holiday and fine weather – and Puget holiday rental farmhouses and villas are great for enjoying the sunshine that the period from May to September almost always brings. If your dream holiday involves sitting around the pool and enjoying the sunshine with a glass of fine French wine in your hand, holiday rentals in Puget can make that dream become a reality.
The beautiful countryside that surrounds Puget and envelops the Luberon region makes the village a good option if you are plenty of outdoor activities during your holiday in Provence. A number of hiking and cycling trials go through, up and around the village, and provide options for all ages and all levels of fitness. A popular option is to enjoy a 2km walk to the neighbouring comune of Les Beaumes, whilst many other attractive hilltop villages can be reached by way of a short journey in the car.
Puget has basic amenities, but to properly stock up on supplies you may prefer to head to nearby Merindol (6km), which has more in the way of shops and small supermarkets. The local gastronomic centre, however, is Lourmarin (11km), which is just fifteen minutes away by car and home to a bustling cafe and restaurant scene, especially during the hot summer months. The use of a hire car is strongly advised to make the most of your holiday in this rural part of France.
Being in the heart of Provence, Puget is most popular as a holiday destination between the months of May and September, when temperatures can be expected to range between 22°C and 32°C on the vast majority of days. A vacation can still be enjoyed in Puget outside of peak season, with temperatures of 5-15°C the norm for this period.
Puget accommodation can be reached from the UK via a flight to Marseille–Provence airport (MRS), 65km to the south, or Avignon-Caumont Airport, 45km to the south-east. The former has a greater number of flight options from the UK, but the latter usually has the cheapest offerings, as it receives regular flights from budget operators Jet2.com and Flybe.
