Holidaymakers looking to get away to a destination where the climate is warm throughout the year might like to give Puerto Escondido a try. This fishing village is located in the State of Oaxaca on the southern Mexico Pacific coast and offers plenty for visitors to do and see. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, villas, condos and apartments.
The coastal town of Puerto Escondido has miles of white sand beaches with hidden coves and fantastic rock formations. Many of the beaches are ideal for visitors with young children as they have safe swimming areas, while surfing is also very popular here. There are some very pleasant walks in Puerto Escondido taking in wonderful views including one on the cliff side.
This is a traditional fishing village and holidaymakers can participate in this activity with boats taking parties out to catch tuna, sailfish and marlin amongst many others. Visitors can also take a dolphin and turtle watching tour on one of the boats. The Puerto Dive Center takes people of all diving abilities on trips to view the many reefs offshore.
There is a good variety of cuisine here with traditional Mexican dishes along with a handful of other cuisines such as Japanese or Chinese, and many eateries have seafood on their menus. Self catering holidaymakers can buy fresh fruit and vegetables from the market held on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
There are several interesting places to visit in and around Puerto Escondido including some of great natural beauty. One such place nearby is Laguna de Manialtepec, which has lush plant life as well as being a great place to spot birds and wildlife. Another beautiful spot worth visiting is the emerald green Carrizalillio Cove.
Near to Barra de Colotopec there is a lagoon with crocodiles, while just past the town of Nopala are some magnificent waterfalls. The ancient Chatino town of Santo Reyes Nopala is about an hour away and is a place filled with history and culture. This is quite a prominent coffee growing area and visitors can visit one of the farms to learn more about the coffee raising business.
The temperature in Puerto Escondido remains pretty constant throughout the year with an average ranging from 79 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Between November and May there is very little rainfall. However, the rainy season between June and October can see thunderstorms forming in the afternoons. September is the wettest month with an average rainfall of 13.8 inches.
Puerto Escondido Airport is approximately two and a half miles from the centre of town and is only served once a day, five days a week by Aerocaribe from Mexico City Airport. Passengers can get direct flights to Mexico City from European locations such as Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Madrid and Paris. There are also flights to and from some major cities in the United States, Canada and South America.
