Providenciales, otherwise known as Provo, is the main urban region of the Turk & Caicos Islands. With all the facilities and services you could possibly need for a sensational holiday in the sun, Provo is the ideal base for either a full exploration of the islands or simply a luxurious holiday in the Caribbean sun.
Beaches surround the Provo region, providing endless choices spots on which to relax. You could not wish for a more spectacular beach than the 12km stretch of white sand that is Grace Bay, and the offshore barrier reef keeps the beach perfectly safe for swimming, as well as providing a home to thousands of tropical fish that make snorkelling and scuba diving such an absolute delight from a Provo villa. Scuba diving in Provo is world class, and whatever your level of experience, suitable tuition and guidance can be easily found. Windsurfing, deep sea fishing, kite surfing and para-sailing can all be enjoyed from a self catering Provo property too.
The natural islands that adorn the sea here provide some of the most enjoyable sailing in the whole of the Caribbean. There are a great number of bays with safe mooring, and more hidden tropical beaches than you can imagine. By taking a yacht rental or a chartered boat, you can discover the whole of Turks & Caicos under your own steam, throwing anchor where you desire, and having a swim, a dive or even go fishing. Sapodilla Bay is a particular favourite for sailors living in Provo accommodation. There are three marinas in Provo, so anyone wishing to try sailing, charter a boat or indeed try almost any water sport should be able to arrange it all with great ease.
If you can drag yourself away from the stunning beaches of Provo, there is a huge amount to do on land too. The Long Bay Hole, a huge limestone chimney, is a natural marvel that is well worth investigating, and the ruins of the Richmond Hill Plantation are also of great interest. Provo is also home to many superb restaurants, lively bars, a casino and even an 18 hole golf course.
Those looking for even more peace and seclusion can head for Middle Caicos, the largest and most sparsely populated of the Turks & Caicos Islands. The island is wonderfully secluded, and offers beautiful fishing and many natural phenomenon that cannot fail to inspire and impress, especially the Lucayan Caves.
With over 350 days of bright sunshine every year, it is extremely unlucky to visit a Provo beach house rental during a period of bad weather! Temperatures are remarkably constant throughout the year, with only a couple of degree differences between the summer (June-October) and the winter (November – May). Year round you will be bathing in temperatures of between 27 and 32˚C from a Provo holiday rental.
Providenciales Airport (PLS) is the main entry point to the Turks & Caicos Islands, and luckily for those of us travelling from the UK, receives direct flights from the UK on a regular basis. British Airways provides direct flights to Provo Airport from Heathrow (LHR).
