10km to the south of Olbia lies the town of Porto San Paolo, one of Sardinia’s most scenic spots. The area has something to offer those looking for an active break of hiking, scuba diving and sailing, as well as others who prefer a relaxing beach holiday of doing very little, enjoying the local cuisine and soaking up the sun. Many of the holiday rental villas in Porto San Paolo offer great views of the surrounding rugged coastline.
The small port presents a range of activities, and visitors can choose to go sailing, swimming or scuba diving, or take the short trip across to the Isle of Tavolara, which is home to some of Italy’s most unspoiled beaches. Just a short walk or drive in either direction from the port lie a number of sandy stretches, many of which are largely free from tourism.
As well as water-based activities, the town is ideal for exploring by foot. An endless amount of rocky bays and sandy creeks line the coast, and the area offers some fantastic views and scenery. The great weather all year round means that hiking is an ideal way of discovering the area and getting some great photographs.
Porto San Paolo has the full range of amenities that you would hope for in a holiday destination, including shops, bars, supermarkets, banks and cafes. An important part of visiting the area is to enjoy a typical Sardinian meal in one of the restaurants. Local specialities include freshly baked breads, cheeses and seafood.
Porto San Paolo borders the municipalities of Olbia, Padru, San Teodoro and Monti. Olbia is 10km away, and is home to a number of Roman remains, including those of the ancient thermal baths. Heading further away from your holiday accommodation base will be rewarded, as you will discover a greater selection of beaches and picturesque small towns and villages. Porto Cervo (40km to the south) is a popular tourist destination also well worth adding to your itinerary if you have use of a rental vehicle.
Warm temperatures all year round make the destination ideal for a summer break or some winter sun. July and August are the hottest months, but even during December and January the temperatures rarely drops below 15C during the daytime. This climate makes Porto San Paolo perfect for enjoying any kind of outdoor pursuits.
The Costs Smeralda Airport (OLB) at nearby Olbia is the nearest destination to fly to in order to get to your holiday rental accommodation at Porto San Paolo. easyJet offer some of the cheapest flights, and offer direct routes from London Gatwick (LGW) and Bristol (BRS). Ryanair offer a direct route from Birmingham (BHX), with the flight taking approximately two and a half hours.
