Sousse is about six miles away and is an interesting place to visit with its medina with the best souks in the country, an 8th-century fortress as well as an archaeological museum and the Museum Dar es-Sid. Further south is Monastir with its well-preserved ribat and a picturesque medina, while the city of Kairouan has the oldest Grand Mosque in North Africa.
