Those looking to find a slice of traditional Algarve life, look no further. Perfect for holidays, Porches is one of few remaining traditional Algarve seaside fishing villages that seem to have completely bypassed the effects of mass tourism in the region. The whitewashed houses in Porches still have red tiled roofs, and there is a genuine atmosphere of peaceful, rural life. For holidays, Porches houses cannot be beaten, as your holiday villa will seem a lifetime from the bustle of the coast, yet within 5 km of home, you can be relaxing on the golden sand at Benagil or Armacao de Pera, exploring the medieval streets of Lagoa or simply relaxing with a drink overlooking the Mediterranean.
Porches is surrounded by countryside covered in lush vineyards and blossoming orange groves which are a delight for walking amongst. There are many miles of walking, cycling and horse riding trails throughout the Porches area, and despite the lack of tourists, these are well marked and beautifully maintained.
The golf courses of Vale de Milho, Gramacho and Vale da Pinta are all relatively close to a holiday rental house in Porches, Algarve, offering any visitor with a handicap certificate some magnificent golf in the sun.
Porches is best known for its pottery production. Porches is one of few places where traditional potters still work, producing the finest Algarve pottery you can find. Many visitors come to Porches purely for the pottery, buying the beautifully coloured pieces by the car full.
The coastline of Porches is typically Algarve, with perfectly soft stretches of sand lying between jagged rock outcrops which jut out into the clear, azure waters of the Mediterranean. In taking a hire car, you can ensure that finding the perfect beach is easy, and those wishing to try a few water sports can head towards any of the beaches in the region, especially those around Carvoeiro and Albufeira.
The climate of the Algarve is fantastic. The summer seems to last forever in Porches, with daily temperatures reliably breaking the 30˚C mark from May all the through until late September. The arrival of winter is not a reason to leave Porches either. Temperatures rarely drop below 15˚C during the day in winter either, which makes activity holidays all the more enjoyable.
Faro International Airport (FAO) is no more than an hour from a holiday rental property in Porches, and receives a vast range of inbound flights from the UK. There are a huge number of airlines offering cheap flights to Faro, leaving from almost every major airport throughout the British Isles, and some very minor ones as well! There are a great range of airport transfers from Faro to nearby Carvoeiro, but a hire car is a great option as Porches is a rural community and many of the Algarve’s attractions are spread out along the coast.
