The beautiful resort area of Playa Langosta is situated in the north-west of the country of Cost Rica, on the Pacific coast. This is only around 10 minutes away from the enchanting village of Tamarindo and less than an hour’s drive away from Liberia International Airport. Over the years, holidays in Playa Langosta have become increasingly popular and this is because both locals and international visitors alike are attracted by the area’s breathtaking natural beauty. There are a number of bed and breakfast-style establishments dotted along the beach, however, more and more people are steering towards booking self catering accommodation in Playa Langosta. This allows them to experience the relaxed way of life associated with this area for themselves and all properties are very well equipped.
One of the biggest activities for people on their holidays in Playa Langosta is definitely surfing - around the entrance to the estuary is known to be particularly perfect for this sport. People come from many miles around in order to ride the surf in this part of Costa Rica. Other water-based activities include swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, wind surfing and deep-sea fishing. Strolling along the beach - especially around sunset - is said to be extremely idyllic. Between the months of October and March, you may be lucky to see leatherback turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs.
The nearby village of Tamarindo has many more tourist facilities than Playa Langosta and this is probably the best place to head to stock-up the cupboards back in your self catering accommodation. It is definitely a good idea to hire a car, whilst on your holidays in Playa Langosta. This way you can really go off-the-beaten-track and explore the ‘real’ Costa Rica. This country is covered with dense rain forests and some of the most fascinating and exotic species of wildlife you are ever likely to find anywhere on earth. Las Baulas National Park is one local attraction that should definitely be on your ‘to see’ list.
Visitors on their holidays in Playa Langosta should be prepared for the fact that this part of Costa Rica experiences what is known as a tropical rainforest climate. This means that although it is warm throughout the year - with temperatures often reaching into the thirties degrees Celsius - there is an awful lot of rain. In fact, heavy downpours can occur on most days and sensible waterproof clothing should certainly be packed in your suitcase.
There is a direct service to Liberia Airport (LIR) from the UK and this is operated through Thomson Airways from London Gatwick (LGW). However, this is only seasonal and therefore you may have to fly via other US cities such as New York (JFK) or Miami (MIA).
